ALEXANDER (SANDY) LOCKHART Alexander passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the age of 86. He is predeceased by his wife, Edith. Sandy was born in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland and later moved to Canada. He lived life with fairness and honesty, and above all else he was one of the last true gentlemen. He was handsome with a smile that would melt your heart and confident and meticulous in his appearance and in the way he lived his life. Sandy had a heart of gold. He was a loving, caring, loyal husband, father, brother, uncle and FRIEND to many. His smile and laughter will be missed and remembered by all who knew him everyday forward. He is survived by his son, Dirk (Barbara) of Colorado Springs and extended family; his loving sister, Brenda (Henri), his niece Deb (Marcel) and grand-niece Shelby and many nieces and nephews. We would like to give a special thanks to his "best friend" Marcel for the unfailing devotion in caring for Uncle Sandy. His final months were pleasant and meaningful because of your presence in his life. The family would like to thank Dr. Shelley Zieroth and her staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Heart Failure Clinic and Drs. Bovell, Goulet and Villeneuve and the nursing staff of the 4th floor, Victoria General Hospital for their excellent care and kindness, and to John Friesen, Spiritual Care. In keeping with Sandy's wishes the family will lay him to rest at a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made in his memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Heart Failure Clinic of St. Boniface Hospital or a charity of your choice. I worked with Sandy when he was captain of the tug George Kydd in Churchill. He was a pleasure to work with and to know as a friend. A true gentleman to all that knew him. - Posted by: Chris Colp (Friend) on: Sep 15, 2013

To me, Sandy was a special friend - though I had not known him long, but it felt like I did. Sandy was a proper gentleman, who was always ready with a Scottish toast, a smart remark, a funny story or joke. He endeared me to him quickly. I just finished reading a book he wrote...and I had the author sign it! May you rest in peace, with the love of your life, Edith.
