Date of Passing: Sep 13, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySALLIE BIRD (HANNAH SARAH) On Friday, September 13, 2013, our dear mother and grandmother (Grannie) passed away at home near Sherwood Park, AB, at the age of 89, with her family by her side. Sallie leaves to cherish her memory her children, Tim (Carole) of Ottawa and Bev Koshman (Don) of Sherwood Park, AB: two greatly loved grandchildren, Meghan Oxley (Andre) and Cameron Koshman, both of Sherwood Park; one brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; her son, Rick; her parents, Richard and Lillian Goodman (Smith); her two brothers, one sister and two half sisters. Sallie was born in Selkirk, MB on October 21, 1923 and resided in Selkirk and the Petersfield area until 2009 when she moved to Sherwood Park, AB to be closer to family. She did her registered nurse training at the Selkirk General Hospital and at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, graduating in 1945. She took pride in being the best nurse she could be, working first at the Dynevor Hospital, north of Selkirk, and then at the Selkirk General Hospital for many years until her retirement. After her retirement she gave generously of her time and nursing skills to care for her siblings and finally her beloved husband, Gordon. Sallie was a dedicated member of the United Church, both in Selkirk and Clandeboye and then in Sherwood Park. Most of all, she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, always putting her family's needs before her own. She leaves the gift of a wonderful example of faith, dedication, devotion and giving. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Ave., Selkirk, with Rev. Deborah Vitt officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Selkirk United Church, 202 Mclean Ave., Selkirk MB R1A 0T6; or to the Clandeboye United Church, 8456 PTH 9, Clandeboye, MB R0C 0P0. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

I remember the times at the Bird's home in Selkirk and the cottage at Petersfield. I remember Mrs. Bird loved to bake, not cook. I remember wanting to be as fine a nurse as she was. My thoughts are with Bev and her loved ones at this time of saying goodbye. - Posted by: Sandy Stalder (Bev's friend from Nurse's training) on: Sep 17, 2013
