PETER DERKSEN December 7, 1927 - September 21, 2013 It is with sadness in our hearts, that we announce the peaceful passing of our father on September 21, 2013, Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 85. Beloved father of Klaus Derksen, Renate Cushnie (James), June Derksen (Robert Mravnik) and grandfather to five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude (1981), his mother Natalie (1985) and sister Valentina (2011). Dad was born in Zaporozhye, Ukraine. In 1956, he immigrated to Canada with his young family. A devoted family man, he worked hard to make a better life for them. He worked as a power engineer for 25 years at Building Products and 20 years at the U. of W. until he retired. Fishing and camping with family and friends was one of his favourite pastimes. A self-taught carpenter, dad was always eager to improve his home or lend a hand to someone else. Dad loved his family unconditionally and was a most generous and caring man. He will be missed by all that knew him. The family would like to thank the staff at HSC GA4 for the care they provided for our father in his final days. A come and go celebration of Peter's life will be held on Thursday, September 26 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. with tributes at 2:30 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5Y4. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or to a charity of your choice.
