LEONARD FIEBELKORN December 9, 1939 - September 24, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard R. Fiebelkorn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Len is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Diane (nee Robertson); children Craig (Joanne) and Nancy; Diane's children Nan (Rodney), Sue (Guido), and John, and grandchildren Jennifer, Daniel, Amy, Eason, Jenea, and Aidan. Leonard also leaves to mourn siblings Bev (Gerry), Phyllis (Colin), Delores (Bill), and Randy (Debbie); sister-in-law Ruth; Diane's siblings Ralph (Edna), Sue (Larry), Jack (Evelyn), and Doug, and good friend Tony. Leonard was predeceased by his parents William and Christine; sister Audrey and her husband Doug; brother Harvey, and nephew Todd. Leonard was employed at the Manitoba Rolling Mills for 47 years, retiring at age 62 as Superintendent of Production Control. Len was an avid sports enthusiast, whose love of hockey earned him the respect of his peers, and led him to receive the MAHA 10-year-old Olympics Coach of the Year award. When not in the hockey rink, Len could be found on the golf course or throwing rocks in the curling rink. There was never a more gracious host nor perfect gentleman. After retiring, Len became an elder of the Knox Presbyterian Church and worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Selkirk Soup Kitchen. Len and "Di" loved to travel. They were blessed with many years of visiting various destinations including Hawaii, Mexico, Texas and Cuba, to name a few. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Selkirk General Hospital for their compassion and care. A private interment will be followed by a celebration of Len's life on Monday, September 30, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 Eveline Street, Selkirk, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Anthon Bouw officiating. Reception to follow at The Selkirk Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 9Z9 or Knox Presbyterian Church. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Diane and family..Leonard was one of the best coaches my son Bill ever had and these are his words, "please let his wife know that he was one of my favorite coaches and that I try to treat my players that age the way he treated us. He was always very positive and encouraging with us." Bill coaches soccer in Thunder Bay. We are sad for the loss of such a gentleman! - Posted by: Carole Ezzard -Forbister (friend) on: Sep 29, 2013

  • We will always remember Len as such a warm, friendly, fun and active man. Thinking of you and wishing you strength and peace at this difficult time. Love from Ottawa. - Posted by: Andrea and Phil LeBlanc (Family Friend) on: Sep 28, 2013

  • I first met Len at an MRM work dinner 20 years ago in January 1993, along with his coworkers Bruce, Gary, Bob, Wayne, Bill, Norm... and I could tell right away that he was well respected and well liked by his peers. Len knew a lot about the Mill, and about the people that kept the business going. I learned a lot about MRM from Len and had the pleasure and good fortune work with him from 1993 until his retirement, plus golf with him a few times after that. Len was great to work with, always in a good mood and ready to share a joke or two with you. He was a wizard with the rolling schedule, somehow finding ways to keep all the customers happy. One thing I learned from Len early on - take a long warm vacation in February to break up the Manitoba winter! Diane, Craig, our thoughts and prayers are with you, sincerely Scott & Lisa Meaney. - Posted by: Scott Meaney (Friend, coworker) on: Sep 28, 2013
