BETTY WHITE September 21, 1923 September 29, 2013 Peacefully, with family by her side, Betty White passed away on September 29, 2013 at the age of 90. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, David and Ken (Nancy Doern-White) and her grandchildren, Kathryn (fiancé Justin Smith) and Stephen. Betty was predeceased by her parents Helen and Frederick Todd, her brothers Fred (Addie) and Tom (Flo) and her husband, Tom, in 2005. Betty was born in Winnipeg on September 21, 1923 and grew up and completed her schooling in the St. James area. She worked for a short time at Eaton's mail order. Betty married Tom White on June 19, 1943 and they resided in Fort Garry for their entire life. Betty was a true stay-at-home wife and mother. She cooked for her family and kept a tidy home. She was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, the harder the better! Betty and Tom were lovely dancers, and they attended seniors' dances for many years. Betty travelled vicariously through the exploits of her children and grandchildren. She loved to see their pictures and hear of their adventures, and then would remind them that she preferred the security and predictability of her own home. This preference was respected, and with support, Betty was able to remain in her own home until June of this year. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Betty's life will take place on Monday, October 28, 3:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, Winnipeg MB, with Rev. Dr. Eleanor Geib officiating. There will be a private interment preceding the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Roy Smith for his care over the years, and the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for their compassionate care during the past three months. Betty supported many charities. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3L 0K6, or a charity of one's choice.
