Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHELMA DEGUELDRE (nee PARKER) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Thelma DeGueldre on October 3, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Andre DeGueldre and two children, Henry DeGueldre and Juanita DeGueldre (Cavel). She was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Julia Parker. Also mourning her passing are her siblings, Jackie Glowatsky, Patricia Balasko (Alan), Earl Parker (Bear), Harvey Parker (Wendy), Henry Parker, Paulette Dillon (Gerry), and Albert Parker (Char). She also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces. She was born second of eight children to Stanley and Julia on December 1, 1945 in Sanford, Manitoba. In 1967, the family moved into Winnipeg. In 1970, she met the love of her life, Andre. They married in July 1971. They spent a great amount of time outdoors, whether it was hunting or camping or fishing. In January 1980, they welcomed little Henry into their arms, then in January 1982, little Juanita was born into their lives. Thelma spent a great number of years working for the Manitoba Telephone System as a telephone operator. In 1999, at age 54, she decided she wanted to try something else, so she went back to school at Red River College and became a Health Care Aid. She retired from Manitoba Telephone System in 2001, and worked as a Health Care Aid for Complete Care, then went on to work for Victoria Order of Nurses (VON) and Drake Medox. She retired from work in the spring of 2012. Thelma loved to garden and spent time out at the farm in Oak Point, Manitoba, which she and Andre acquired in 1988. They called the farm Windy Oaks'. She had a huge love for dogs, her favourite being the Irish Setter. Thelma has always had a few dogs with her. In the past few years, she had spent almost every Wednesday with her older sister Jackie, where they would go shopping and visit. Many thanks to the staff at the Grace and St. Boniface Hospitals for caring for Thelma and making sure she received the care she needed. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6 or the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 3J5. A service will be held on Thursday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5Y4.
