VERNON DANNY HAWES
Date of Passing: Oct 04, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERNON DANNY HAWES It is with great sadness that we announce the accidental passing of Danny Hawes on October 4, 2013. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and best friend Nola, his children Dezi, Jayce, (Sarah) and Janel; his sister Mariann (Denis) Fitzpatrick, brothers Dave (Shawna), Harry (Linda) and his critters Rosko and Black Jack. He will also be missed by sisters-in-law Wendy Gerbrandt and Lisa Fiddler (Jerry), brother-in-law Lary Fiddler (Lorie), nieces and nephews Sean (Jana), Neil (Erica), Pam (Adam), Blair (Bonnie), Luke (Jen), Will (Angel), Kat (Clayton), Jamie, Morgan and numerous relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his mother and father Ruth and Gordon and mother and father-in-law Janet and Harold. Danny was born on September 8, 1955 in Selkirk, where he made his home with his family. He attended school in Selkirk where he made lifelong friends. He spent his early years in the north end of Selkirk until the family moved to Rosser Avenue. After graduating from the Selkirk High school, he began work as an apprentice with Purvis Navcon. He worked on the Beaufort Sea making him a graduate of "Tuk U". After Dezi was born he joined the Boilermakers Union (Triple Nickle, 555) to be closer to his family. Danny was first and foremost a family man. He enjoyed vacationing with Nola and the kids. He loved to sweep Nola away to exotic locales, including proposing marriage in Hawaii. Danny was so proud of his children and supported them in everything they wanted to do. He worked hard for his family and spoiled them with whatever dream he could make come true. His nieces and nephews will remember uncle Dan as always having time to find out how they're doing and encouraging them in their lives. Danny always had a smile on his face. Danny was a thoughtful man remembering birthdays and special occasions. He phoned his brothers and sister on their birthdays and attended every celebration and event he could. Danny did not embrace technology, he washed dishes by hand, (removed them from the dish washer) could barely run a computer and only recently learned to text, one to wish his girls a Happy Valentines day and one to his boys to wish them a happy birthday. Danny liked things just the way they were. Danny loved his "toys" and had some for every season. If it had a motor Danny was in. Much of his time with his family and friends was spent enjoying the outdoors. A celebration of Danny's life will take place on Wednesday, October 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 6088 highway #9 with Archdeacon Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Friends and relatives may call for visitation on Tuesday (tonight), October 8, in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Danny's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 or the MS Society of Canada, Manitoba Division, 400-141 Bannatyne Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 0R3. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

I have known, worked with, and truly liked Danny as a co-worker, and a man since I began boilermaking over 20 years ago. He was a wealth of knowledge which I drew upon from time to time, and he was always willing to help out. The unfortunate and unbelievable loss of this friend will be felt by many for a long time. My deepest sympathies to the family. You are not alone in your grief. - Posted by: Jerry Combot (Friend) on: Oct 08, 2013

We remember a New Year's Eve party at Nola and Danny's. Everyone was up dancing and celebrating. But..there sat Danny with that usual smile on his face, quietly watching. Never a bad word, never a judgement, he was just happy when everyone was happy. RIP Danny... - Posted by: Derek and Cindy (Friends) on: Oct 08, 2013
