WAYNE L. MACDONALD September 15, 1936 October 6, 2013 Surrounded by his family, Wayne MacDonald passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2013. Wayne leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Lynn MacDonald (nee Hunter); his children Jeffrey MacDonald (Lorraine) and Susan Deleau (Serge); his grandchildren Matthew (Susan), Jaimi (Susan), Victoria (Jeffrey), and Luc (Susan); his eldest brother, Jack MacDonald; his sisters-in-law Sylvia Bedwell, Janet Banks, and Carol Beitzel (William); and numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his mother (Elsie MacDonald, 1940), his father (John Ewart MacDonald, 1968), his stepmother (Nellie MacDonald, 1976), his brother (Cameron MacDonald, 1990), and his grandson (Michael MacDonald, 1994). Wayne was born in 1936 in the Municipality of Silver Creek. After Wayne's mother died in 1940, the family moved to Winnipeg. Wayne graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate and completed Red River Community College's Business Administration Program. In the 1950s, Wayne began his long career as an accountant in the grain industry. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his many friends and acquaintances. He often left the house or cottage on an errand and appeared hours later after encounters with friends, neighbours, and even strangers. He was our "social butterfly"! In the 1960s, Wayne and other relatives became owners of Macdonald Shoe Store on Main Street. Wayne and his brother Jack became sole owners in the 1970s until Wayne sold his interest to Jack in 1982. The happiest times of Wayne's life were spent with his family - his family WAS his life. To his children, Wayne was a beloved and loving father. Even waiting for him to come home and seeing him walk in the door with his briefcase and wearing his fedora was a happy event for Jeffrey and Susan as well as for his treasured dogs. Whether he was walking the dogs with Jeffrey (and justifying his bizarre love of Detroit's sports teams) or letting Susan put bows in the (thinning grey) hair of her "Tigger," time spent with Dad was never boring and was always cherished. Vacations with the family were special and included renting cottages at Victoria Beach or going on camping trips. In 1977 Wayne and Lynn bought the cottage at 118 Centre Avenue in Victoria Beach and for the next 25 years it became the focus of family holidays. Wayne retired from work in 1993 and began his most important careeras a grandfather. Wayne's grandchildren were a huge part of his life and he loved them all passionately. Whether he was dressing as Santa Claus at Christmas, insisting that the grandchildren try his porridge or fluffy eggs for breakfast, or driving a station wagon filled with toys purchased at garage sales, Wayne's love for his grandchildren and his pride as a father and grandfather always shone. Wayne enjoyed watching sporting events and was a devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings and also of whatever activity in which his grandchildren were participating. The love of Wayne's life was his wife, Lynn. Married for over 52 years, the couple shared a special bond. No matter what was happening, each of them was the other's "my love always." Wayne's family gratefully thanks the staff of the Golden West Centennial Lodge where Wayne spent the last months of his life. The care and love he found there helped ease the burden of his illnesses and provided him with comfort and fun! The people at Golden West became his second family. In accordance with Wayne's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family funeral service will be held on Thanksgiving Day. Donations in Wayne's memory may be made to the Recreation Division of the Salvation Army Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2Y 0S8. I love you! Me too you! MLA! I have fond memories of my uncle Wayne. Before he had children of his own, my brother Paul and I used to have weekend visits at the MacDonald home in St. Vital. We filled the days with sports and the nights with board and card games. It is obvious that he thoroughly enjoyed his time spent with his own children and grandchildren and I'm sure that will carry on through the future generations of the family. You are very lucky to have shared your lives with a man of his caliber. - Posted by: Alan McAlduff (Nephew) on: Nov 10, 2013

I knew Wayne well and his passing saddens me. Always kind, polite and cheerful, it was always a pleasure to bump into him. My sympathy to his family. - Posted by: Daniel Metraux (Former business in the grain industry) on: Oct 15, 2013

Lynn. We send our deepest sympathy to you and your family. The few gatherings of the Norberry group we were able to attend and visit with you and Wayne were special. To rediscover our teen years and the great times at "the end", the baseball we played together, the walks to and from Glenlawn down St Mary's Rd discussing the past and future. As a teen I always enjoyed Wayne's friendship. Our best wishes go with you in these sad times. Dennis & Lyn Wilkins Olds, AB - Posted by: Dennis Wilkins (Old friend) on: Oct 14, 2013

I remember Wayne from a time when we both were pre-teens. Wayne took guitar lessons and I remember wondering why anyone would want to learn guitar. Wayne was far ahead in that respect. In my old age, I'm learning to play guitar. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. To Jack and all his family and friends, I join in your grief. - Posted by: Murray Parker (boyhood friend) on: Oct 12, 2013
