Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPRIMO CESIDIO AUGELLONE October 7, 1920 October 13, 2013 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of an amazing father, grandfather and true friend. Peacefully on Sunday October 13, 2013, aged 93, at Grace Hospice, Primo left us to continue his journey with the Lord and to join his beloved wife Maria, parents Nazareno and Terenzia, siblings Derna and Luciano and many cherished friends. Left to mourn his passing are daughter Terenzia Calligaro (Danilo), son Nazareno Augellone, daughter-in-law Maria Pacella, grandchildren Deborah (Daniel), Alessandro, Adriano and great-grandchildren Matteo and Massimo. He is also survived by sisters Iolanda Macario, Angela Silla of Winnipeg and Mafalda Fusco of Boston, sister-in-law Fernanda Augellone and their extended families. He also leaves behind numerous family members in Italy and France. To capture Primo's story in this announcement is to tell a story of hard work, eternal optimism and deep love for his family, friends, Gruppo Alpini and the Italian Canadian community. Primo was born in the picturesque Abruzzo town of Scanno, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1955. Primo embodied the spirit of a young immigrant who wanted to provide a better life for his wife Maria and his children Terenzia and Nazareno. He retired from Motor Coach Industries in 1985. He was hard working and a devoted family man who was always driven by his insatiable need to serve. His goal was to better his life, provide for his family and help other young immigrant families from Italy settle into their new country. He was a tireless volunteer who spearheaded fundraising campaigns for the Italian radio program, Holy Rosary Parish and the Italian Cultural Centre. One of Primo's greatest sources of accomplishments was the founding of the Gruppo Alpini of Winnipeg, a veterans group, bringing together those who served in the Italian army, to continue to honour and serve their fellow man by raising funds for worthy initiatives in the Italian community. As a leader of the Alpini, he worked tirelessly on behalf of the group's mission. Primo was admired and respected for his leadership which also provided tremendous opportunity for personal growth. He had opportunity to travel extensively in Italy, meeting officials and dignitaries and making contacts that would further enhance his community back home. No other passion surpassed the passion he felt for his grandchildren, Deborah, Alessandro and Adriano, great-grandchildren, Matteo and Massimo. Teaching them Italian, sharing with them the beauty of the Italian culture, traditions, old world memories became his lifelong joy and purpose. The profound impact he has had on his grandchildren will be forever imprinted in their minds and hearts. Their bond with nonno will be eternal. An avid walker, gardener, reader and sausage and wine maker, Primo loved sharing with friends and family. His life will be defined by his strong will, determination and vitality that will be forever in our hearts. He will be so missed. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff and medical team at Grace Hospice who run a very special and caring facility, Home Care Nursing, in particular, Louise Dansereau and the many, many friends and relatives who came to visit and be by his side playing Scopa during the painful months of his illness. Condolences can be offered at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. Eulogy will be read at 9:45 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Father Sam Argenziano celebrant. Entombment in Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St. Honourary and Active pallbearers are the Gruppo Alpini of Winnipeg.
