THELMA HRUDEN (nee ADAMSON) April 28, 1931 - October 17, 2013 It is with a deep sense of loss but also thankful that her suffering has come to an end, that the family of Thelma Hruden announce her passing on October 17, 2013 at the Selkirk General Hospital, after waging a valiant battle against cancer. Thelma will be sadly missed by her son Kim; grandchildren Kyle, Kristopher, Rebecca, Spencer and their mother Wilma; Thelma's sister Barb and husband Don, as well as nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Stephen; daughter Shaun and son Garth. Thelma volunteered for many years at the Selkirk Soup Kitchen, was an active member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada, plus donated freely to numerous charities. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cross-stitch, needlepoint and knitting. Thelma excelled at anything she put her mind to. One of her passions was nature, she particularly enjoyed bird watching. Thelma was a seasoned traveller taking many road trips with Steve, then later wonderful winter vacations to Mexico, Cuba and Dominican Republic with her children. The family wishes to thank the staff on medical 1 and 2 of Selkirk General Hospital for excellent and compassionate care given to Thelma. A Celebration of Thelma's Life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB, with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Thelma was a caring and nurturing, thoughtful and supportive mother-figure to me in my young years, when I had no direction and little else to help me learn, what adult life was about, and to navigate my way through it. She touched my life more than she ever knew; and I am privileged to have been able to share in her motherly wisdom. - Posted by: Joni Lugtig () on: Oct 30, 2013

  • Thelma's daughter Shaun had started a tradition of always ending a visit or a phone call by saying "I love you". We all picked it up, a welcome crack in the ice of an undemonstrative family I'm glad that, because of Shaun, I told Mom, and she I, that we loved each other very often. You never know when it might be your last chance. You can't say it enough. - Posted by: Kim Hruden (son) on: Oct 27, 2013

  • Mom was wonderfully humble and unassuming, not ever wanting to be the centre of attention, gently influencing with comfort, encouragement, and wise comment. - Posted by: Kim Hruden (son) on: Oct 27, 2013

  • Mothers like Thelma are few and far between. She was one of the best and I am glad that my memory book has been touched by knowing her. - Posted by: Donna Todd () on: Oct 26, 2013

  • We knew each other for a few years but spent a lot of quality time together. Love to her family. Will miss the times we had lunch together. - Posted by: LYNNE (FRIEND) on: Oct 19, 2013
