DORIS CARTER Peacefully, Doris passed away the morning of October 24, 2013 at Red River Place in Selkirk, MB at the age of 98. Born February 13, 1915 in Miami, MB, Doris moved to Petersfield, MB as a young child. There she met the love of her life, Jim, and they married in 1933. They farmed alongside each other, raised their sons, nurtured their grandchildren, gave a helping hand to anyone who needed and remained there until Jim passed, 60 years later. She now rejoins those who left before her; husband Jim (1993); sons Ken (2005) and Barry (2009). Left to mourn her passing are daughter-in-law Lynn of Lac du Bonnet; grandchildren Dale (Tanis) of Abbotsford, BC, Wade (Nadia) of Nizhnevartovsk, Russia; and Diana Steiner (Paul) of Oakbank; great-grandchildren Kenneth, Chelsey Warcimaga (Kyle), Bogdan (Jane) and Brittny; great-great-granddaughter Taylor Warcimaga, along with many extended and 'adopted' family members. The door at the farm and later at Grannie's home in Selkirk was always open, with coffee and dainties at the ready. Flowers and vegetables from her gardens were shared far and wide and many a bed or sofa is still covered by one of her crocheted afghans. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the friends, neighbours and health care staff who have been so good to Doris through the years. Special thanks to Alma, Anne, Blaine, Brenda, Dr. Lindenschmidt, Kim, Sandra, Sandy, Stacey and Susan. A graveside service will take place at St. George's Anglican Cemetery, Wakefield, MB at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. A luncheon will follow. My sister Laurel and I met Doris at her home a number of years ago after she helped me with information for my Sims family history book. She was the epitome of hospitality providing a three course meal for lunch. Laurel and I were entertained with her wit and knowledge. Doris was a long time neighbour. I remember dearly stopping in at her house..And her Parots. My brother, Vern, sister Cindy and myself would be totally amazed by those parots. I was very devastated when her son Barry passed. But she is now rejoined with him God Bless her soul!
