PHYLLIS AUDREY BEAUCHEMIN
Date of Passing: Oct 22, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHYLLIS AUDREY BEAUCHEMIN Phyllis, beloved wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 under the loving care of the staff at the Gimli Betel Home. Phyllis is survived by her husband of almost 43 years, Mickey Beauchemin; her daughter Lynda Walker (David); her son Don Walker (Susan) and Mickey's children Diane Butt (Stewart), Karen Gottfried (Larry) and Debbie Mielleiu (Adrian) as well as 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Veril McDonald, her brother Nevin, sister-in-law, Betty, Stan Palmer, Allan Walker and Mickey's children Sharon, Barb, Kenny and daughter-in-law Lotte. Mom was born on March 25, 1925 in Ochre River. She spent her young years in Northern Manitoba communities as her father was a CN station agent. Her fondest memories were in Wabowden. She settled in Winnipeg where she worked for the Free Press and then the Province of Manitoba. It was there she met Mickey. They married in January of 1971 and together they ran the Norseman Motel in Gimli. After the sale of the motel, they were able to enjoy 25 years of wintering in Texas. Phyllis was an active member of the Gimli Legion Ladies Auxilary and the Hospital Auxilary. She loved to golf, dance (favorite song Mack the Knife), play cards, play bingo, knit and cook. First stop at Grandma's was checking the cookie jar for her famous oatmeal cookies. Miraculously, the jar was never empty. She also enjoyed her yearly trips to Kelvington, SK to visit her brother and family. Those parties were the best! Her prized possessions were her photo albums and her collage of pictures on the wall. They were her life's memories. We would like to thank the staff at Betel for their wonderful care of mom. She was always happy and said they fed her well and she didn't even have to do dishes. A celebration of Phyllis' life will be held on Tuesday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory the Alzheimer Society, Betel Home in Gimli or a charity of your choice.
