Born: Mar 30, 1912
Date of Passing: Nov 04, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY FLORA (WEBB) MCDOWELL March 30, 1912 - November 4, 2013 After a long and adventurous life, our lovely mother, Dorothy, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2013 at Lions PCC on Sherbrook Street, with her family at her side. We will always remember her gentle ways, her great sense of humour, and her work ethic which set such a fine example for her family. She was predeceased by her parents John and Flora Webb, her brother Harold (Mae) Webb, and their son Bill. She leaves her family of David (Linda) McDowell; Eleanor (Bob) Tilton of Oakville, ON; Barbara (Gary) Evans of Winnipeg, and one nephew George (Guylaine) Webb of Mississauga, ON. After her beloved Herb died in 1967, Mom moved to Winnipeg from Brandon and gave her time and talents to many organizations, including the Costume Museum of Canada, Dalnavert, and the Crafts Guild of Manitoba, while working full-time all of her adult life. She loved music and was an exceptional pianist, and played the piano and organ for several church and seniors' choirs. Her quick and inquiring mind led her to be a lifelong learner, from her graduation from Brandon College with a BA, class of '33, where she met Herb, to attending University of Winnipeg 55 Plus classes as a senior. She was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress and knitter, and was generous to those who needed help. She loved to skate, to dance, and to sing, and her travels took her to many exciting places. Hers was a life well lived, with curiosity and kindness. We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of Lions Manor and Lions PCC for their wonderful care and for making our Mom one of their family. Thank you also to the friends who helped to make her life so full. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service at a later date. Mom's great fondness for animals was shown by her support of the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3, and if people so desire, donations may be made to this charity, to the Brandon University Foundation, 270-18th St., Brandon, MB, R7A 6A9, or to the charity of your choice. Rest well now, Mom. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

My sympathy to David, Eleanor, and Barb and your families. When I was a student attending First Baptist Church Brandon, I had the opportunity to enjoy your mother's friendship and hospitality. Thank you for telling her story. - Posted by: Isabel Acheson (nee Fraser0 (friend fromlong ago) on: Nov 09, 2013
