Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryADOLF VAAGS Peacefully, in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 10, 2013, at the Concordia Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, Adolf Vaags at the age of 75, was lifted out of pain and suffering into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. Dad was born on August 1, 1938 in Lichtenvoorde, Netherlands. At the age of nine he, with his family, immigrated to Canada, settling in Dugald, Manitoba. He attended the Transcona Christian Reformed Church where he met and later married the love of his life, and beloved wife of 53 years, Audrey Smid. Together they had five beautiful children and 14 grandchildren who meant the world to him: Lori, Avery and Ashley; Anthony (Gisele), Glenn, Briana, Kyle, Brandon, Cherisse; Roger (Irene), Charlene, Darcy, Jeremy, and Evan; Louise (Peter), Brendon, and Abby; Glenn and his son Hunter. He is survived by his brother Bill (Bertha), sister-in-law Sarah (Tom), sister-in-law Joyce, brother-in-law William, also Audrey's family, sister-in-law Frances (Henry), brother-in-law Harm (Jackie), sister-in-law Rita (John), sister-in-law Margaret (David), sister-in-law Lorie (Kerry), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Rika, brothers Johan, John, and Harry, also brother-in-law Paul, and nephew Martin. In his heart Dad was a true farmer and for many years he farmed in Dugald, until the late 1980s when Roger joined him in farming and eventually took over the farm. Dad primarily worked then to develop his sunflower bird seed business. Dad was also a natural salesman, business person and entrepreneur. For many years he loved nothing better than to get on the open road in his Toyota Camry in search of used farm machinery, which he bought and sold. In his retirement years he embarked on his last business venture, to design, manufacture and market a unique drainage machine for farm use. Anthony and Glenn joined Dad in this endeavour and will continue with this, which shall remain his legacy. Dad cherished time with his family and our gatherings always brought a lot of fun, love and laughter. A charismatic entertainer, Dad enjoyed meeting people and sharing his many humorous stories and adventures. In recent years his favourite pastime was joining the community locals for coffee each morning at the Chicken Chef. Despite many health and financial challenges, Dad's faith, optimism, and determination carried him through these times. Well-known for his booming voice, magnetic personality and distinctive expressions Dad was truly one of a kind. Dad had a gentle, kind, loving and giving heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Till we meet again! The LORD the Shepherd of His People: A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital especially in the Intensive Care Unit for all their efforts in the final hours. An interment will take place on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 11:45 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery on Heatherdale Road in the RM of Springfield. A celebration of Adolf's life and reception will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Avenue West. In lieu of flowers, in honour of his granddaughter Ashley, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. www.seasonsfunerals.ca Seasons Funeral Chapel, 204-444-5444
