WILFRED GEORGE SCHARBACH December 26, 1949 - November 13, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Wilfred George Scharbach on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. Will is survived by his wife, Patricia Routledge, brothers (-in-law), sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, Peter, Stephen (James and Julia), Roger and Joanne (David and Colin), Nick and Sherri (Geoffrey, Natasha, Joel and Shane), Doug and Sue Routledge (Sarah and Julie), Rick and Louise Routledge (Karen and Laura). Will is also survived by 11 grandnephews and grandnieces. Will was born in Toronto, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg in July 1982. He studied English Literature at Victoria College of the University of Toronto and Library and Information Technology at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute where he met his wife, Pat. Over his 30 year career, Will worked at the University of Manitoba Libraries, the Manitoba Museum Library, the Manitoba Department of Justice Library and the Great Library of the Law Society of Manitoba. Will's real passion in life was working with wood creating sculptures and furniture. He enjoyed spending many of his lunch hours visiting the exhibits of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Will was a devoted and loving husband, supportive brother, and thoughtful and helpful neighbour. We will all miss his keen sense of humour and good company. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17 at the Wildewood Club, 761 North Drive, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Will's memory to one of the following: Winnipeg Art Gallery, 300 Memorial Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1V1; Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, or Red River College PAR Excellence EQ Award, C306-2055 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3H 0J9. • Hello Pat, I was very sorry to hear about your loss. I extend my deepest sympathy to you. "Say not in grief he is no more, but live in thankfulness that he was." Hebrew proverb. - Posted by: Norma Rocan (Former student from RRC) on: Mar 21, 2014

  • I knew Will through his employment with the Great Library. It was always a pleasure to know that Will was "in the Library" as I knew that if I needed anything that I was in good hands. Will would go over and above to provide assistance and it is terribly sad to learn of his passing. All my best to Will's friends and family during this difficult time. - Posted by: Curtis Knudson (Friend) on: Jan 27, 2014

  • Just found out about Will's passing away, and we are so sorry, Pat. Our very best wishes, and condolences. We remember the fun curling potlucks at your home, and checking out Will's latest wood working creations. - Posted by: Carole & Jim Rogers (Friend) on: Nov 30, 2013

  • Dear Pat; We are so sorry to hear of Will's passing. As your next-door neighbours for over 21 years, we will cherish all of the good times we have had together ... block parties, garage sales, Christmas tree decorating, etc. When we look at the amazing woodworking pieces in our home that Will created, we realize what a true genius he was, and how his legacy will not be forgotten. He was the best neighbour and friend one could ask for. We will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Helen and Brian () on: Nov 17, 2013

  • Dear Pat, Both Ron and I are so sorry to hear about your best friend and dearest husband, Will. Always remember that all your friends at the Herb Society and our dinner club, are there for you. Where we, the privileged ones, had the opportunity to meet and enjoy Will and his good humour, not to mention all those executive meetings at your home where Will was always there in the background and helped with our clean-up and then would share his amazing MAN-CAVE of his passion of woodworking. Our hearts go out to you, your kitty and your newest puppy. (Forgot their names - sorry never good with names).
