EDWARD KARISH Peacefully, on November 18, 2013, Eddie passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre, beloved brother and uncle, at the age of 72. Born on July 25, 1941, Eddie spent his life on the family farm west of Fraserwood, the fourth eldest child of six, to Teenie and Henry Karish. He will be sadly missed by his brothers, Martin, Alex (Gladys), Peter (Lois); sisters, Helen (Ken) Lawrence and Lucille and their families; 12 cherished nieces and nephews, and 12 great-nieces and nephews. Eddie was a kind-hearted person, who loved to laugh and reminisce. He enjoyed listening to Ukrainian, Old-Tyme, and country music, Saturday night polka party and especially his great-nephew Keenan playing fiddle for him. Eddie was struck with Polio at age 12. Though this left him with some disability, growing up he worked hard on the farm with his family, having also lost his father at a very young age. He stayed home to help his mother with the farm and remained after her passing, working the homestead his grandparents started, with his brother Peter. Eddie farmed his whole life until his health prevented it and in most recent years, lived in Gimli, until his passing. He was a good neighbour to everyone, and will be remembered by his family as someone who always saw the best in us. Special thank you and appreciation to the healthcare workers that cared for Eddie over his lifetime. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli. Interment will follow at the St. Francis Cemetery, west of Fraserwood. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
