PAUL JOHN PLAETINCK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and pepere on November 15, 2013 at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 73, surrounded by his family. Paul was predeceased by his parents Rene and Clara Plaetinck. He will be greatly missed by his wife Diane (Fredette) of 45 years and his three sons and their families: Craig and Nicole (Christopher); Darren and Chantal (Xavier, Winston and Veronica); Kenneth and Samantha (Danika and Ryan). He will also be missed by his siblings: John (Joan); Maria (Gilbert deceased); George (Irene); William (Christine); Eric (Candy) and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Paul was born August 20, 1940 in Ghent, Belgium. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 and finally settled outside of Glenboro, Manitoba. He attended school, but had to leave after grade six to help out on the family farm. Later he attended the Manitoba Institute of Technology and obtained an Interprovincial Heavy Duty Mechanic and Interprovincial Automotive Mechanic licenses. In 1962, Paul began working for Industrial Parts & Service Ltd., a job that he enjoyed for 50 years until he retired. In 1968, he wed his bride Diane of 45 years and had three sons. Paul and Diane lived in Ile-des-Chenes and later moved to Winnipeg. Paul enjoyed music and sports such as curling, baseball, hockey and football. In his later years, he enjoyed playing Texas Hold'em poker online, keno and slot machines at casinos throughout North America. Paul enjoyed playing with his many grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards with his in-laws, or playing liars dice with his brothers and nephews. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care for the care and compassion they showed our father during his stay there. Prayers will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day St. at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013. Service of Remembrance will be held at Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. "Dad, we will always love you and will always miss you." • I will always remember my Uncle Paul. He knew how to have fun and how to laugh. My fondest memories of my childhood are with him and his family. I don't know if I would have learned how to dance if not for the improntu dance classes in the living room. You will always be remembered and missed. - Posted by: Doreen Gallagher (Niece) on: Nov 25, 2013

  • Sorry to hear of your brother's passing Willy. My condolences on your loss. Siblings never leave us. They are sent to watch over us. Look to the skies once in awhile. You just might find him throwing the dice. L. Gyde - Posted by: Laurie Gyde () on: Nov 25, 2013

  • Uncle Paul, you were my favorite uncle. You knew how to laugh and how to have fun. My greatest childhood memories include you and your family in them. I will always remember all the camping our families did, and I have to say that my sister and I wouldn't know how to dance if it weren't for those improv dance classes in the living rooms. You will be missed but always remembered. - Posted by: Doreen Gallagher (Niece) on: Nov 23, 2013

  • Our most heartfelt sympathy to you Diane and all your family. We will always remember the good times we had at work and at play with Paul. He has left a wonderful legacy which you both created...your sons and their families. Take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Gordon, Marleen, Heather and Brian Coulter (Co-workers, friends) on: Nov 23, 2013
