SHEILA JOAN STORJORD (nee GOODMAN) Sheila Joan Storjord, aged 74, passed away at the Grace Hospice Winnipeg on December 17, 2013. Sheila fought a valiant battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Sheila was predeceased by her parents Laurence and Gladys Goodman. Survivors include her two daughters Susan (Brian) and Valerie, her granddaughter Caren (Shad) Morris and numerous first and second cousins. Sheila was born in Selkirk, MB, but she lived most of her life in Winnipeg. After graduating from Teachers College in 1959, she was a classroom teacher and later became a resource teacher after returning to university and completing her BEd. Sheila taught for 39 years. She taught many grades, inspired many young people and adult learners until retiring from teaching in 1999. Although Sheila may have retired, she never stopped being involved in life and the field of education. Sheila spent several years after retiring as a faculty advisor for student teachers from the U. of M. helping students reach their goals of becoming the next generation to inspire students. She also was a member of the Royal Winnipeg Ballets - Women's Committee and volunteered at Things Antiques And Gifts. Special thanks to all of Sheila's very good friends, to the warm and caring staff at the Grace Hospice, the Victoria General Hospital, and Home Care who helped support her through her illness and life. Thank you all for caring about the very special lady we called Mom, Mum, and Nanny. Memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. The interment of Sheila's ashes will take place in the spring. As well, there will be a celebration of her life in her favourite place during the summer months. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Knox Presbyterian Church in Selkirk, Manitoba Lung Association or to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
