CYNTHIA HELEN MACCHARLES (nee SINCLAIR) Cynthia Helen MacCharles passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. She will be sadly missed by her two sons Keith and Quentin (Elisabeth), her three loving grandchildren Riley, Lindsay and Julia, her sister Jane Hottinger (Bill) and family of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, sister-in-law Fran Jukes and family of Calgary, and loving companion William E. Gray. Cynthia was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth L. MacCharles in 2005, and parents Helen and Dr. Alex Sinclair. Cynthia was born April 24, 1936 and lived in her family home on Kingston Row for 74 years. "210" was a special place with years of memories that she loved to share with her children and grandchildren, including the flood of 1950. Cynthia attended Windsor Elementary and then Kelvin High School. She spent many early mornings skating at the Winter Club throughout her childhood and continued to teach while attending university. She worked for the Canadian Red Cross in the years prior to her marriage to Ken and spent many years as a member of the Junior League volunteering her time with many of her lifelong friends. Cynthia also worked together for many years with Ken in the family manufacturing business, Airmaster Sales Ltd. Perhaps Cynthia's greatest passion was her keen interest in sports and her involvement in curling and golf. Cynthia was a member of the Provincial Senior Curling Team and was named the All Star Lead at the Canadian Senior Nationals. Cynthia was a long time member at St. Charles County Club serving as Ladies Club President in 1987 and a founding player with the Eagles Ladies Golf League. Ken and Cynthia shared a love of golf and enjoyed many golf vacations all over the world. She passed on her love of sports to her grandchildren and was always their biggest fan. The family would like to thank everyone at CancerCare Manitoba and the Riverview Health Centre for the excellent care she received over the past 18 months. A memorial service will be celebrated at St. Charles Country Club, 100 Country Club Blvd., Winnipeg, MB on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (Prairies / NWT) (www.cbcf.org/prairies/) or the Manitoba Golf Scholarship Fund, 420-145 Pacific Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6. • To the whole MacCharles Families I extend my deepest sympathies. Cynthia succumbed to a lengthy difficult process but to me always showed courage. I did not know her in her heaLthy days but can imagine what a driving force she was and true Matriarch of her family. • Cynthia and I grew up living on Kingston Row and our parents were good friends. Although I was older, we all skated together on the river - happy memories! Rest in peace, Cynthia. - Posted by: Gail Hallonquist (nee Buchanan) (family friend) on: Dec 27, 2013

  • Cynthia and I skated together those early mornings before school, after school and on weekends. We were good friends when we were at Kelvin the same years and at the U. of M., then went to Europe together after graduation. She was a dependable, loving, caring friend all those many years and remained the same when we lived far apart. Keith and QM, I am so very, very sorry for your loss - my heart and thoughts are with you and your family. With love, Beverley Chafe . - Posted by: Beverley Chafe (old, old friend) on: Dec 23, 2013
