Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Sending you sympathy and thinking of you. My grandparents, Mike and Katherine Slywczak, were from the same town, Luzek Gorny and Toporowce in Stary Sambor. My cousin kept a newspaper clipping from 1948 or 1949 that tells of a trip they took to "... Gronlid, Saskatchewan, Canada, a 6,000 mile round trip by train. They visited Mr and Mrs Michael Slipiec's family there. Mr. Slywaczak (sic) and Mr. Slipiec were boyhood friends in Europe and this was their first reunion." I wonder if this story referrs to your relatives, bearing in mind spelling and names could have been confused by the newspapers of the day. My grandma Katy's maiden name was Stryzak. In doing family research i also see mention of the name Michajlos (sp?) Uhryn in Winnipeg, Canada. - Posted by: Joan Slywczak Petersen (friend from Luzek Gorny ) on: Apr 10, 2016
