SHARON JEAN POPOWICH March 25, 1952 - December 21, 2013 On December 21, 2013, at Boundary Trails Health Centre in Winkler, MB, Sharon Popowich, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away at the age of 61 years. She is survived by her daughter, Maggie, son-in-law Peter and grandsons Trepp and Reece. She also leaves to celebrate her life her brothers John and Jim, and her sisters Donna and Brenda. She was predeceased by her sister Gale; and parents Nestor and Betty Popowich. Sharon was born in Calgary, AB, to a Canadian soldier, Nestor and his wife, Betty. The family moved around a lot, but settled in Winnipeg after their father's death when Sharon was 12. Sharon worked for the City of Winnipeg libraries for 30 years. She raised one daughter, Maggie, and was the best mother a girl could ask for. Maggie later married Peter Fehr and had two sons, Trepp and Reece, who loved their "Nan" immensely. She moved to Winkler, MB, three years ago to be closer to her daughter and grandsons. She will always be remembered for her loving, caring nature and generosity. As per Sharon's request, a small service celebrating Sharon's life will be held for family and close friends at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Heart and Stroke Building, 6 Donald Street, Suite 200, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I received the gift of random player "sjpowich" in March 2013 when I first got my smart phone and began playing words with friends. I loved the way she played and she really taught me how to play scrabble; we had five to seven games going every day, so I went to sleep and woke up with Sharon's words, and she loved to chat! I soon learned that she had cared for her Mother, that she'd been a librarian, that she liked to babysit, and had gotten a grandson a little stove so he could cook with her! She loved her vegetarian daughter. On Dec. 19th she said she was exhausted and on Dec. 20th she said she had to go to hospital. We had four games going and when I didn't hear from her, I knew something was wrong and told her she was in my prayers. At first she thought I as a widower because I wanted privacy (I had been a soap opera Broadway actress) and said my "secret name' was Cretia Kidoff. I think her hopes were up that I was a man, but took it in stride when I told her I was a grandmother and had a husband of forty-four years. I loved her sense of humor and her game spirit, always saying "congrats" when I won, or encouraging me when I used all my letters. She was good company and I shall miss her! God Bless her family! May she rest in peace with the forgiveness of her siblings, and the rich heritage of her grandsons and daughter. I will remember her as light! • Sharon was my first branch head, she was carrying Maggie at the time. I have known her for many years. she had quite the sharp wit and cutting sense of humour. Sarcasm was her friend, I saw her at Millennium library several times, she will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Joan McMahon (co-worker and friend) on: Jan 03, 2014

  • Your mom Sharon was the supervisor at the Osborne Lbrary. She was personable and friendly and I really enjoyed working with her. - Posted by: Crystal Mitchell (co worker) on: Jan 03, 2014

  • What beautiful memories I have growing up in Winnipeg and spending time with Brenda (my close friend) and her little sister Sharon.
