STEFANIA PANKEWYCZ July 7, 1927 - December 26, 2013 Peacefully surrounded by her loving family our mama passed into the hands of our Heavenly Father. Stefania was predeceased by her husband Wolodymyr (1977); their infant son Myhajlo; her parents, Myhajlo and Maria Kowalczyk and sister, Olga Karhut. Stefania is survived by her devoted children, Josie Majer (Marian); Mary Marcinkow (Allen); Janina Barrett (Don); Irena Pankewycz (Wes Stowell); and George Pankewycz (Patricia). Also mourning her loss are her grandchildren, Julia, Mark (Melanie), Larysa, Alia, Nikolas (Tracy), Alexa, Antin, Stefan, Taisa, Talia, Maxim and great-granddaughters Ella and Mackenzie. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Anna (Jan), Nadia (Bogdan); sister-in-laws, Karolina and Aniela; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Stefania was born in the village of Dobra, povit Sianik, Western Ukraine. Her family was forced to relocate to Poland in 1947. Here, Wolodymyr and Stefania married and began to raise their five children. In 1966 the young family immigrated to Winnipeg. Mama was widowed at age 50. With great strength and determination she guided us to achieve our goals. She and Tato strived to create a better life, in a country that promised a far better future for us than their own. Mama ensured that our home was always open to our extended families, and she was always ready to give her time, support and advice to whoever entered her home. Stefania was strong in her Catholic faith and a proud Ukrainian Canadian. She held onto her traditions and taught us children, and her grandchildren to respect, love and maintain our faith and culture. Always leading by example Mama taught and encouraged us to be grateful, hard working contributors to our new country. She was an active member of, Sts. Wolodymyr and Olha Cathedral, the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada, Institute Prosvita, Millennium and Dumka Choirs, and a supporter of CYM. Stefania enjoyed attending seniors' events and helped organize many pyrohy bees and church teas. Mama lived at Selo Villa for the past six years alongside many of her dear friends. They enjoyed praying the rosary daily for numerous intentions. We would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Concordia Hospital, 2nd floor N2 East for their exceptional care. On Christmas Day a wonderful caroling family sang for Mama in her room. You were a gift from God sent to Mama, and we thank you. Panahyda will be sung 6:00 p.m., Wednesday January 1, at Sts. Wolodymyr and Olha Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 2, with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stefania's grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sts. Wolodymyr & Olha Renovation Fund 206-114- McGregor St. Winnipeg, MB. R2W - 5J7. Fallen Limb A limb has fallen from the family tree: We keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me." Remember the best times, The laughter the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you. Keep smiling and surely, the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest, Remember all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small, Go on with your life, don't worry about falls.
