WILLIAM SOKOLIUK
Born: Aug 02, 1944
Date of Passing: Dec 28, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM SOKOLIUK It is with profound sadness that, after a brief but courageous battle, we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and Gido, William (Bill) Sokoliuk on December 28, 2013 at the age of 69 years. Dad leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 47 years, Verna; two sons, Shane (Alex), and Sheldon (Tanya), and Brenley, the granddaughter that he adored. He is also survived by his brother, Walter (Cheryl), godson Marshall; his sisters and brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Steve and Cynthia Sokoliuk, sister-in-law, Pat Sokoliuk, and father and mother-in-law, Mike and Mary Hasiuk. Dad was born on August 2, 1944 in Sirko, MB. He spent his early years in the Sirko and Sundown area going to school and working on the family farm. After high school, Dad moved to Winnipeg where he began his working career. He spent 37 years working for Versatile Farm Equipment and then spent his last nine years, before retirement in 2010, employed by St. Boniface General Hospital. Dad did not preach to us about how to do things the right way. Instead, he led by example. He taught us the great importance of hard work, honesty, humility and thoughtfulness. He was happiest when our family was together. Christmas, Easter, birthdays, family getaways or simply sitting in the back yard was where you'd find him at his very best and in fine form telling us silly stories and corny jokes. These times will forever be remembered. As a family, we would like to thank the many friends and extended family that visited Dad and brought us food and goodies during his stay in hospital. You all made his final days more special and we know it meant the world to him to have you all there with him. We'd also like to extend a special thank you to tremendous staff; including the doctors, nurses and health care aides on floor 6E at St. Boniface General Hospital for their tender care, true professionalism and compassion they gave to Dad. Dad left us far too soon. We had so much more to see and do, but now we have to say goodbye. Please join us at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street at 10:00 a.m. for a viewing, followed by his funeral at 11.00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014. Vichnaya Pamyat Dad! Already, we miss you more than you'll ever know. Funeral Arrangements in care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street (204) 224-1525

I am so very sorry to hear of Billy's passing. My heart goes out to you and the rest of the family. I will always remember him as a kind, funny, and good person! I have good memories of Bill and Verna together as great partners in life - and love of family. What a handsome cousin and true proud Ukrainian. Things I especially love about him. Sorry to Walter as well, because my memories of the two of you brothers being the best of friends stick strong in my mind. Again, I'm so sorry to his kids, and everyone touched by Bill's passing.
