HAROLD REGINALD PERRY As was his nature, Dad took his leave in the last moments of 2013 on the coldest night of the year, with his family by his side, at peace and pain free at the end of his 88th year. He was a very good man, and a great husband, father and grandfather. He had strong family values and loved life. He cherished his wife Norma, of 66 years, his children Dianne, Reg (Arlene), Rob (Trish), his grandchildren, Carey, Kyle (Candice), Arlee (Morgan), Jesse, Alicia, and great-grandchildren Nathan, Zane, Quinn, Malakai and Calla. He was predeceased by his great-granddaughter Jasmyn. We have great comfort knowing they are together. Harold began his life in Ashern, Manitoba, July 7, 1926 living on a small farm. After their marriage, he and Norma headed for Winnipeg in search of a better life in the city. Harold always worked hard to support the family and secured a position with the Fort Garry Fire Department and then the Fort Garry Police Department. He loved the job, the people and all that he learned about life. He began as an officer, was promoted to detective and by the end of his career he was an inspector with the Winnipeg Police Department. He retired after 35 years of service. Even in his final years, he was still trying to help others and be of service. Harold loved camping, hunting, fishing, golfing and travelling with Norma. He taught his family how to have fun and how to love the outdoors. He kept us entertained with police stories, a twinkle in his eye and his wicked sense of humour. Our father instilled a strong sense of work ethic in his children and he has left that strong legacy to pass on to our children. He and mom spent many happy winters in Texas and in Mexico with the many friends they had made over the years. They spent their summers in Winnipeg Beach. Our family shared many happy times together at the lake and have wonderful memories of swims off the dock and perfect summer days. The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent care that dad and the family received from the compassionate team at the Betel homes in both Selkirk and Gimli. Flowers are gratefully declined but a donation to a charity of your choice would be welcomed. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held when the weather is much warmer! If every child had a father like Dad, the world would be a better place. Until we meet again Dad, rest in peace. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
