VAN (ALFRED WILLEM THOMAS) MCCORMACK On January 1, 2014, at the age of 67 years old, after a year and a half long battle with cancer, Van passed away peacefully, at home, with his wife and best friend Pat by his side. He is predeceased by his father Tom McCormack, step-father Bill Weir and mother Toni Weir. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Pat, and four children, Shawn McCormack (Tracy), Shannon Kushner (Robb), Trina Spence (Craig) and Kerry McCormack (Karen). Van will also be missed by his four grandchildren Taylor Spence, Aiden and Eric Kushner and Elizabeth McCormack and his beloved dog Bea. On August 1, 1946 he was born in Heerde, Netherlands and arrived in Winnipeg, Manitoba six months later, where he lived until he built his home in St. Andrews, Manitoba in 1980. He fell in love with his dream girl and they were married on July 24, 1970. They started on their family and then he began his career as an electrician with CP Rail in 1972, where he worked until he retired in 2006. Van retired to pursue time spent in leisure with family at his cottage and home. He loved to fish, hunt and snowmobile. His love of the outdoors led him to spend much of his time with his family at his parent's cabin in Petersfield until he built his own cabin in Nopiming Provincial Park in 1974. He spent most of his summers at the cabin with Pat and children. We would like to thank Dr. Lindenschmidt and the staff at the chemo center at Selkirk hospital as well as Dr. Harris. Also we would like to thank Gail the home care nurse for her support and advice. Donations can be made in honour of Van McCormack to CancerCare Manitoba or the Kidney Foundation. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
