HOWARD GORDON MCDANIEL Howard McDaniel passed peacefully into the presence of his dearly loved Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on December 30, 2013 with family at his side. Howard Gordon was born March 31, 1920 to Grace Edith (Dakin) and Allan Alexander McDaniel of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Raised by his mother through the depression years, Howard learned to be resourceful, industrious and resilient, which was to characterize his approach to life in an enduring way. He was also raised in the knowledge of the Lord and spent many hours in Sunday School and summer camps where his faith grew. When he attended Winnipeg Bible College in 1950 he met and took beautiful Sadie Buhler as his bride. An only child, Howard took exceptional delight in the seven children that blessed their home, whom he referred as precious jewels. Howard is survived by his loving wife, Sadie; his children Faith (Garry), Gordon (Judy), Grace (Gerry), Ruth (Harvey), Timothy (Brenda), Judith (Mark), and Ronald (Almira), 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Howard served in the Canadian forces and the war ended just before he was to be deployed overseas. Howard was a journeyman tinsmith and spent most of his working life in the sheet metal trade, retiring in 1984. Howard was always completely engaged with life even during retirement, and had numerous interests including golfing, canoe trips with his boys, fine woodworking, tinkering with his car, manning the phone lines at Billy Graham, doing renovations at the CSSM camp at Gimli, and maintaining the family home. Howard travelled with Sadie to Ecuador and Maui and reveled in taking pictures. Ever the gentleman, he cared for Sadie tenderly when her health was challenged. He revered literature and the interplay of words whether it was composing and reciting poetry, recounting his vivid dreams, simply turning a phrase, doing a word jumble. He enjoyed a good game of golf with family and friends. He loved to laugh almost as much as he loved ice cream. Howard was kind, reliable, measured in his thoughts, words and actions and provided wise council to all who had the joy and privilege to know him. His passion was to read, teach and discuss the Bible and compared exploring its truths, to mining for gold. Howard faced challenges in his life with optimism, faith and courage, including living with cancer for more than 20 years. In the last months of his failing health after several strokes, he still expressed his deep love for his family, his faith and his anticipation of heaven's glory. Howard's life exemplified the Apostle Paul's words in 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. If so desired, donations may be made in Howard's memory to The Leprosy Mission of Canada, info@leprosy.ca A celebration of Howard's life will be held at Maranatha Church on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Light lunch to follow immediately after the service. • Sincere condolences to Sadie and family. Howard was a delightful person. I will cherish the memories of many very interesting conversations concerning our faith, his love of golf, his pride in his children, his love for Sadie, our mutual respect for friends and teachers/pastors who influenced our world view. He was an intelligent, caring guy. I will miss him on this earth and I look forward to our reunion when that day comes. - Posted by: Ron Siemens (Friend) on: Jan 03, 2014
