GIUSEPPE (PINO) REGINA April 4, 1946 - January 3 2014 It's with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our wonderful Father, Husband, and Grandfather, after a brave, graceful and dignified struggle with cancer, at the age of 67. He is predeceased by his father, Onofrio Regina, and mother Nunzia Settembre, and brother-in-law Florio Matteoni, all of Italy. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Rosa of 44 years, who was by his side through life and unrelentingly in his final weeks. His loyal and caring children Nancy (Carlos), Franca (Miro), and Onofrio (Anastasia), and his three beautiful stars and loves of his life, granddaughters, Serena, Angelina, and Juliana. Also left to cherish his memories are his family in Italy, sister, Margherita Regina, niece and nephew Alberta, Roberto and Marco, brother Domenico Regina (Solena), of Pistoia. Sister and brothers-in-law Graziella and Michele La Trofa and family, Lorenzo Denora and family of Winnipeg. Michele and Anna of Belgium, Andrea and Carmela, Franco and Ninetta of Bitritto Bari and their children. Extended family, Lino and Romanina Cerqueti. Dad was born in Grumo Appula, Italy, on April 4, 1946. In his late teens, he moved to Switzerland to work with his father for a short period of time. He immigrated to Winnipeg in 1967 where he met his love of his life, Rosa; they were inseparable and raised their three beautiful children. Dad was a high pressure welder and pipe fitter and began his own business in the seventies, Pino Technical Welding, where had a stellar reputation. In retirement, his passion for welding blossomed into creative art sculptures for the church, Centro Caboto Centre, and University of Manitoba. Dad's strong and steady hands could bend that steel into anything imaginable and we are proud to see his treasured artwork, all around us. Dad was a charming, graceful, elegant man who filled every room he entered with life and energy. He had a strong character and was a tremendous conversationalist. He was a fiercely proud Italian. He was a passionate man, a perfectionist, a lover of life, people, art, music, and anything that touched his heart. Dad was always good company and loved to make people laugh. Dad was our strongest supporter, with him on your side, you could accomplish anything. He was a strong man, but was not afraid to show tears. He worked hard for his family, but enjoyed life equally. He was compassionate and caring and is his only goal was to keep his family together. Dad had a history of beating the odds, surviving two bouts with Lymphoma and a Stem Cell Transplant, and was always exceedingly grateful for the additional 16 years of life, he used them to the fullest and enjoyed all things dear to him, his family, his winter vacations to Mexico, and his love of steel and art. You would often find dad in his impeccably organized garage working on his next masterpiece, that's when he was happiest. Dad's strong will exceeded all expectations in his recent experience with lung cancer. In the end, his will to live was stronger than his body's ability to fight and he peacefully surrendered to God with his family alongside him. A true inspiration. We want to thank CancerCare and Riverview Health Centre for their care and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba. The Family will receive condolences between 10:00 and 10:45 a.m.; Eulogy will be delivered at 10:45 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church 510 River Ave. with Msgr. Ward Jamison celebrating. Entombment will follow in the Holy Angle Mausoleum Hwy #1 at Nevin Road. Condolences & Memories (42 entries)

  • For years we were friends. It was an honor to know Pino; he had the ability to make people smile and laugh. I will remember these moments forever. Pino was a very knowledgeable man and always held Italy close to his heart. Although Pino had many health issues he always kept his, and his friends, spirits high. It was a pleasure to have known Pino; he will be missed. - Posted by: Francesco Marini and Family (Friend) on: Jan 13, 2014

  • Rosa, Nancy, Franca and Onofrio - Although we didn't know each other for long, there was an immediate unspoken connection between our families, as we travelled the same journey together. As we read about Pino's life, it made it clear to us why we were meant to cross paths. Our Dads had very similar lives and loves. Both were very hard workers and loved their families more than life itself. Their grandchildren were their entire world and it was evident at all times. Your Dad's passion was steel, ours was wood. Your Dad beat the odds many times, as did our ours. Other similarities, too numerous to note, but most of all, both had very strong Catholic faith. We know exactly the emotions you are feeling now as it is all too surreal to imagine our lives without them. People keep saying there is no more suffering, but for right now, we just want them back for one last conversation! We had wanted to reach out to you earlier this week, but unfortunately we were unable to. We walked the same journey as you this week and it was as if even in the end their lives were similar. Our Dad's suffering ended yesterday and now we can truly relate to your loss. In the end, neither of them had any fight left to beat the odds one last time. Kind of ironic how we crossed paths, yet our Fathers (and husbands) never had a chance to meet. Maybe now Pino and Aime will finally have the chance to meet and say "Hi Neighbor"! Our hearts are heavy for you all. Sincerely The Boiteau Family, your Riverview neighbours. - Posted by: The Boiteau Family () on: Jan 12, 2014

I would do that for him even tho I ever knew him very well. But for whatever reason, I had this great respect for him and would help him with whatever he needed. Great Man. Rest in Peace Pino.
