IVAN SOLIC It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ivan Solic after a lengthy and courageous battle with health issues and dementia. Ivan died peacefully with his wife Carrie by his side at the Deer Lodge Centre on Sunday, January 5, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife Carrie; stepdaughter Cheryl (Jim); son Slavko (Crissy); granddaughter Sydney; and brother Stan (Maria) Solic. Ivan was predeceased by his mother and father; three brothers; and one sister in Croatia. Ivan was born in Resetari, Nova Gradiska, Croatia on March 3, 1939 and on January 3, 1970 he came to Canada. He was a shoemaker in Croatia and at Grape Shoes in Canada. Ivan worked as a mechanic for twenty seven years at Allied Systems (Canada) until his disability and his retirement. He was a long time active member in the Croation Community. He was a past president for the United Croats of Canada Branch 10 April Winnipeg and worked for the Croation Folklarama Pavillion. He did a lot of work for the Croation Community Hall as well as helped build it and assisted with their picnics at 27 Skazyk Road, Lockport, MB. In his early years, Ivan played soccer professionally. He also loved to play bochi ball, cribbage, chess, shuffleboard, pool and loved making homemade wine. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, nieces and nephews. Not to be forgotten, his four legged companion, Saba who gave him so much comfort and joy. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Tavelich Church, 2688 Main Street. Viewing will be held Saturday, January 11 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church followed by Rosary recited at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Robert Polz officiating. I wish to express my extreme gratitude to all the staff at the Deer Lodge Centre and Dr. Maharaj for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Str., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. In tears I saw you sinking, And watched you pass away. My Heart was almost broken, I wanted you to stay. But when I saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free from pain, How could I wish you back with me, To suffer that again. It broke my heart to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of me went with you, The day God took you home. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 204-586-8044
