ELMA JEAN KREWIAK (nee GUNTER) Elma passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital on Saturday, January 4, 2014 with family at her side. Elma was a life-long resident of Selkirk, Manitoba. Born on August 9, 1926, Elma was predeceased by her parents and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by Mike, her beloved husband for 63 years, sons Michael (Terri), Ron, and daughter Michelle (Lorne). As well, Elma leaves five cherished grandchildren, Jackie (Leo), Michael, Jennifer (Joe), Alex, and Max, three great-grandchildren, Amy, Sam, and Ella, her special niece, Barb (Dick), many other nieces and nephews, and her close friends, Nadine and Irene. During the second world war Elma served with the Canadian Women's Auxiliary Corp where she received business training. After the war she put these skills into practice, working at several positions with Sears and Eaton's. She completed her working years with the Lord Selkirk School Division in the payroll department. Elma played an active role in the community, volunteering with several women's organizations and the United Church. Elma's focus, though, was always her family. Elma's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the emergency and palliative staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their wonderful care and support. Special thanks are extended to Chris Salstrom of the Spiritual Care Team for the comfort and closure she provided. The family would also like to thank the staff at Red River Place for the friendship they extended to Mom during her stay with them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elma's name to a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 10, at 11:00 A.M. in the Selkirk United Church.
