On behalf of all the staff here at The Memory Project (Historica Canada) I would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of Mrs. Dorothy Butler. Mrs. Butler was a popular, dedicated, and enthusiastic volunteer with The Memory Project. For many years she visited schools and community centres, sharing her stories of serving Canada with hundreds of students. Some of us were lucky enough to spend time with her in Winnipeg last March when she participated in one of our events. We will remember her. http://www.thememoryproject.com/stories/3165:dorothy-butler/ - Posted by: Clarice Dale (The Memory Project Coorindator) on: Feb 12, 2014

I met Dorothy last year at a Human Library event that we had arranged at the Centre Culturel Franco Manitobain. Dorothy was there as a Memory Project speaker, sharing her experiences as a service member, as she had generously done as a volunteer many times before. Dorothy was wonderful, both to us as the organizers and to the participants. Her personality sparkled and she made a real impact - no one who met her would forget her. She even sent us legion earrings once we had returned to Toronto! I am so saddened to hear of her passing. She was a beautiful light, and I'm certain that many are feeling her loss. I feel fortunate to have met her. - Posted by: Brandy Hagborg () on: Feb 10, 2014

We met Grandma Dorothy 10 yrs ago as her neighbor. Many days were spent helping in her yard with our children sharing our joys and sorrows. Even after we moved we remained close and my now 7 children still refer to her as Grandma Dorothy. She always had so much good in her and was a strong life inspiration for me and my family. I will miss our visits, long calls and amazing stories of her life adventurers she had to tell. We will never forget the memories and love she gave us. Our deepest sympathies and prayers to her family. Bill, Theresa and family - Posted by: Bill Wassenaar and Theresa Gillings (Extended family) on: Jan 18, 2014

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Dorothy's sudden passing. She was a member of John Osborn VC ANAF #1 and the Jolly Seniors, and was only too happy to volunteer for fund raising events to help. She enjoyed many trips with the seniors and her bright smile and good nature will be missed. - Posted by: Peggy Merrick & Heather McCheyne (members of John Osborn VC ANAF #1 & The Jolly Seniors) on: Jan 10, 2014

We were very saddened to hear of Dorothy's passing. Living a couple of doors from her for many years, I went to school with her son. She was a kind woman with a lot of spark. She always had something kind to say and said it with a smile that lit up her face. Dorothy will be missed, our deepest condolences to the family. We had the pleasure of meeting Dorothy in the Dominion Command Pilgrimage in 2011. Her dedication to preserve the memnory of "her Boys" from Manitoba and to make sure that their sacrifice would never be forgotten is an indication of her character...fiesty, funny, sincere, friendly and a stickler for the correct protocol. In a person's lifetinme we get the opportunity to meet special people for a fleeting moment, Dorothy was one of those poeple. Rest in peace. We were very saddened to hear of Dorothy's passing. Dorothy was a Command Pilgrim from Manitoba on the 2011 Legion's Pilgrimage of Remembrance and was very proud to represent her Province and her Command. Dorothy fully participated in all of the activities during the two weeks of our tour. Her enthusiasm and pride in sharing her experiences with the group will not be forgotten. We will remember her.
