SONIA KOLISNYK (nee CHARKEWICH) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our precious family matriarch, Auntie Sonia, the early morning of Ukrainian Christmas Eve, January 6, 2014, 93 years young'. Everyone who knew our Auntie Sonia, knew that her kindness and generosity were beyond measure, especially when it involved children or animals. Auntie Sonia took great pride in her annual flower gardening, and, her flower displays every year were always very much to be admired. Auntie Sonia's dislike for our cold winters has led us to arrange for a celebration of her beautiful life in the late spring (a further announcement will be published sometime in early May). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation at any time to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 95 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 in beloved memory of our Auntie Sonia and her many pets over the years, especially her cats. Sonia was a second Mother to all of us. I can remember as a child waking up looking on the window sill to see 3 pieces of apple strudel she baked for us after babysitting. She accompanied us to the farm during our weekend trips and all our holiday feasts. She was the last of the family to depart us for these Great dinner family gatherings. I am happy to know as I was away Cindy and Davey took her out and Cindy, Claude and Jodie took care of her. I had the Great 1 month this summer to see her humour in Ottawa. Sonia you will be missed, have fun with the family in Heaven. Dodie - Posted by: Darryl Hansell (Nephew) on: Jan 18, 2014

I did not have the privilege of meeting Auntie Sonia.....but I do have the privilege of knowing her niece, Cindy....always loved the stories she shared with me...and could tell that Aunty Sonia played a huge role in Cindy being who she is today...and her choice of work experiences...kind, giving, sharing, loving...and an awesome sense of humour...the world has lost a one-of-a-kind of lady....but her legacy will live on through those that she loved and who loved her. Memories are forever in our hearts...only a thought a way...hugs my friend Cindy...and to her family. - Posted by: Maggie M (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2014

I got to know auntie Sonia over the years through her niece, Cindy. Sonia was at quite a few of our family gatherings, she always came bearing gifts, picked up at one of the many little shopping trips that Cindy took her on. Even this year, a little sleigh decoration that she brought for me one Christmas, was front and center on my tree. I thought of her often. Sonia was lovely and caring, she will be missed. But she was blessed to have been cared for and loved by her generous, caring niece. - Posted by: Michelle Rossnagel () on: Jan 11, 2014

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Auntie Sonia, she was a sweet and kind lady. I am especially glad that I had a very nice visit with her in December at Jenny's with Jenny's dad Davey. - Posted by: Jacky Morry (Jenny's grandmother) on: Jan 11, 2014
