SISTER FLORENCE FILLION, RNDM Sister Florence Fillion, RNDM died peacefully at Action Marguerite/Taché Personal Care Home on Friday, January 10, 2014. Preceded in death by her parents, Napoleon Fillion and Maria Anna Berard and in infancy by siblings Philip and Norman, Florence is survived by six brothers: Léo (Juliette), Raymond (Merle), Gérald, Norman (Sandra), Maurice (June), and Rhéal (Pam) and by four sisters: Thérese, Sr. Jeannine, RNDM, Lillianne, and Noella (Hector), numerous nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Born December 1, 1933 in St. Boniface, Florence grew up in a large and caring French Canadian family at St. Jean Baptiste and St. Joseph, MB. In 1961, she entered the novitiate of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (RNDM) at Longueuil, Québec and made her perpetual vows in 1960 at Brandon, MB. Trained as a teacher and a catechist, over the course of her religious life, Florence served in many Canadian towns and cities in Québec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, primarily in Manitoba. Florence loved to sing, especially in French, her first language. She was blessed with a compassionate heart and had a special care for the poor and those who struggle in life. Florence experienced life as "a journey in faith" - an experience which she expressed frequently in poetry. The Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions and the Fillion family are most grateful to the staff at Action Marguerite/Taché for their competent care and compassion and for the many kindnesses they extended to Florence in her last years. The Mass of the Resurrection, in celebration of Florence`s life, will be celebrated at Villa Aulneau Chapel, 601 Aulneau Street, Winnipeg on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Léo Couture presiding. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation to the Mission Fund of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, 310 Provencher Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R2H 0G7.
