RUTH ISABELLA LOUISE MOORE (nee HALL) May 19, 1921 - January 9, 2014 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on January 9, 2014. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Pat (Don), Judy, John (Vera), six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Guy in 1994. Ruth was born, raised and married in Toronto. Ruth lived an epic life. She was an accomplished pianist and continued to play throughout her life. Ruth was a competitive figure skater who qualified for the 1940 Olympics, which were cancelled due to the war. Her figure skating career came to an end when she married the love of her life, Guy Moore, a pilot in the Air Force and moved to Calgary in 1941. Here she started her next adventure, raising her family. In 1946 Guy's career changed and they found themselves back in Toronto. Then in 1966 they moved to Winnipeg. Here Ruth returned to school and pursued a teaching career. First she taught Kindergarten and then children with special needs. She enjoyed art and loved to write, paint and created several sculptures of historical figures. In order to accompany Guy in the air, Ruth obtained her glider pilot license at the age of 60. In her twilight years, she wrote a fictional novel about her skating years, which was published in her 88th year. Ruth possessed a loving heart and extended friendship to all who crossed her path. She had great compassion for everyone, especially those less fortunate. Her faith in God was an important anchor in her life. She was a wonderful example and shining light to all. We will miss her dearly. A service to honor Ruth's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 45 Dalhousie Drive. If desired, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to a compassionate charity of your choice. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • For basically my entire life this is more with the only grandmother I ever knew. She taught me so many things and she supported me the way to grandmother really should. She was always there and she always had her opinions which were amazing and insightful. The world lost a beautiful person but the heavens gained a wonderful angel. • I have known Ruth for so many years as members of the Inner Wheel Club (Rotary). She has been my role model for all of that time. I have known few more exemplary women than Ruth Moore. I was her frequent driver to Inner Wheel meetings and we had many wonderful conversations about life, family and all things important to us. I will miss her but will always have my good memories. • I would like to express my sincere condolence on the death of Ruth. She was one fine lady and I always admired her. She was so kind and friendly. It is a comfort to all the family to know that though you miss her now you know that you will be united again and then there will be no goodbyes. - Posted by: Ena MacDonald (friend) on: Jan 15, 2014

  • I knew your Mom from her work at Chapman School in the 1980's and as Mother Goose when she visited various schools to read to children in Assiniboine South. I was the itinerant speech therapist in the schools and had many consultations with Ruth, especially with regard to the special needs population she worked with. She was a very special person. Her deep caring and commitment to all children was very evident. She was a fore runner in working with special needs and loved to share the games and exercises she had developed to help them learn. I am pleased to have known Ruth in her life's journey. Monica Gompf - Posted by: Monica Gompf (colleague) on: Jan 15, 2014
