WILLIAM GORDON STRUKOFF September 16, 1943 - January 15, 2014 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and brother on January 15, 2014 at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, after a two year battle with a brain tumour. Bill is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 45 years, their son Jeff (Karen) of St. Brieux, SK, their daughter Jill Woods (Sean) of Victoria, BC, his sister Tannis (Walter Chernoff) of Kamsack, SK, his brother Larry (Shirley) of Lethbridge, AB and four grandchildren Taylor, Aidan, Tia and Alex. He was predeceased by his father John in 1986 and his mother Polly in 2013. Bill was born on a farm near Pelly, SK and received his early education at Lister school and later in the village of Pelly. Upon graduation, he trained as a lab and x-ray technologist and served in lab and x-ray units in many hospitals in Manitoba, Carberry, Pine Falls, Portage la Prairie, Killarney and finally in Swan River, where he met and married Marilyn in 1968. In 1971, they moved to Winnipeg where Bill was employed by Manitoba Health as a Regional Manager of Laboratory and Imaging Services. He continued in that position for many years and eventually ended his career as the Manager of Cadham Provincial Public Health Laboratory. When Bill retired in 1999, his love of Saskatchewan and farming brought him great joy. He spent his spring running an air seeder and his fall operating a combine for Chernoff Farms in Kamsack. He enjoyed 13 wonderful seasons before being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Bill was so proud of his family, in awe of God's beauty in nature, loved large machinery; especially combines, was an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and enjoyed George Jones music. The family wishes to thank all those caring and compassionate professionals at CancerCare that were involved in Bill's care and the caring nurses and health care aides on Unit 2 that made Bill's last days so comfortable. We also want to thank Milly Malavsky and John Friesen for their outstanding spiritual care. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Ave., Winnipeg, with interment in Kamsack, SK at a later date. If you were a friend of Bill's, please consider yourself an honourary pallbearer at his service. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Dear Marilyn and Family. So sorry to hear about your loss! I worked in the Lab in Dauphin and knew Bill, and met you many years ago. Always had fun with Bill. He called me Mrs Bilirubin. I lost my husband Dave on Jan 6 so I know how hard it is! My husband was with Hydro and we know Bob well. Just wanted to offer my condolences. - Posted by: Linda VanderbuRgh (Lab friend) on: Mar 09, 2014

I have known Bill since 1970s when we started working in lab & X-ray for the Province. His smiling face was always a welcome sight at our door. A soft spoken gentleman that I shall truly miss. We always had a running joke about fishing in the Interlake & always loved to go for lunch for French fries at our restaurant(homemade). He will truly be missed by all who knew him. I offer my sincerest & deepest sympathy to the family. A blessed friend & family man. - Posted by: Gail Holmes (Friend) on: Jan 28, 2014

Dearest Marilyn & Family, just returned from vacation and heard of Bill's passing. Thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Having renewed my Pelly friendship with Bill at the 1980 reunion and then at the Scotties and visits on Vancouver Island I feel a loss of a friend who could always brighten the room and lift everyone's spirits. He will not "soon be forgotten". - Posted by: Dianna McIntosh (Friend) on: Jan 21, 2014

Marilyn and family: We are so saddened by Bill's passing. We are glad that we were able to share some good times with you both in the past few years at the reunions in Pelly, and our lunches in Winnipeg. I will deeply miss our attempts at having a Russian conversation. May God grant you strength in your deepest hours of sorrow and know that we share that with you. His memory will live on. Our deepest sympathies to you, Marilyn, Jeff, and Jill. Bill was everything you'd ever want in an uncle - kind, giving, and most important of all, funny. That sense of humour is what I'm going to remember most. And that laugh! It always makes me smile to remember that great laugh. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, even though we can't be. - Posted by: Craig, Jennifer, and Ivan Strukoff (Nephew) on: Jan 21, 2014

Mr. Strukoff was, quite simply, always in the stands. He was a classy guy who was always cheering us on. His great big grin and loud clapping will be missed by his kids, grandkids and all of us who were lucky enough to have him in our corner. Sending sincerest condolences to you all. You are in our thoughts, often. - Posted by: Leanne (Jijian) , Bob and Vivian Hume (He was a "sixer" dad.) on: Jan 21, 2014

Dear Marilyn, Jeff, Jill and family, our deepest sympathy. Bill was such a sweet man; always welcoming, always smiling, always pulling out a map to check where that little town really is! I will miss his honesty, and visiting with him on the back porch, drinking a glass of wine. I admired his devotion to his family and community and the way he wore his heart on his sleeve. He will be missed so much by so many. We are thinking of you all on this sad, sad day. To Marilyn and the rest of the family, my sympathy. I was in Swan River as a student July 1967 and April/69 - Nov./70 before being transferred to Swan Lake where he occasionally visited as regional supervisor. I admired his dedication to his work, and to the studies to rightly handle additional responsibilities. I appreciated being included in the staff outing(s) to Madge Lake and other occasions. I, too, am a farmer now and can understand his appreciation of the farm activities. - Posted by: Isabel Acheson (nee Fraser) (former student in Swan River Lab & X-Ray) on: Jan 19, 2014

Dear Marilyn and all Bill's family, We have lost a real prince of a guy in Bill. He'll be greatly missed by all who knew him, that calm and caring demeanour always with a chuckle in sharing a good story/joke, and, of course, we both shared in our love for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, we were proud to be from the Rider Nation. May God bless you and comfort you in your sorrow.
