Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN MARGARET MALCOLM It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, gramma, Amma, Lang Amma and Lang Lang Amma on January 17, 2014. Mom will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Howard of 58 years; children Ray (Ruth), Peggy (Tom), Bill (Carol), Donna (Jack), Kim, Greg (Judy); her grandchildren Darren, Christopher, Dwaine, Kim, Kerri, Coral, Krystal, Jamie, Steven, Blair, Melanie, Evan, Aaron, Jessica, Trevor, Kayla; great-grandchildren Jenna, Dayton, Andrew, Alysha, Melissa, Brandon, Brett, Mandy, Devin, Tyler, Dakota, Julia, Brennen, Sydney, Kimberlee, Kaylee, Ethan, Aiden, Emma, Ava, Emily and Zoe; great-great-grandchildren Loki, Ember and Pearl; siblings Jocelyn Tubby' and Dennis (Brenda). She is predeceased by her son Allen; siblings Mike, Disa, Oli, Haldor, Leifur, Carl, Lillian and Mercy. Mom was born in Lundar, Manitoba on November 16, 1922 to Snaebjorn and Gudridur Einarson. We take pride in mentioning Mom's many contributions to the community. She was a member of the Lundar Lutheran Church often playing the organ for services; she belonged to the Lundar Legion Ladies Auxiliary (Past President) providing baking for funerals as recently as two years ago; Ladies Aid Bjork; Agricultural Society; Museum Board; she volunteered at the Lundar School; helped with the Lundar Beach Swim program and the Figure Skating program. Mom took an active role sitting on the Board of the Manitoba Society of Seniors and was never afraid to offer an innovative idea regarding matters affecting seniors. Mom held a license as a Marriage Commissionaire making sure to add that personal touch to each and every marriage she performed. She was deeply honored to perform the marriage of son Greg and his wife Judy and granddaughter Krystal and Grant. She loved to share the stories of her experiences performing marriages in "interesting and sometimes exciting" places. Mom was very proud of her Icelandic Heritage and was awarded an Honorary Membership in the Icelandic League of North America. Whether it was getting her driver's license with Bill or ears pierced with "the girls", Mom was never afraid of a challenge. Most recently, learning and mastering Skype. Mom's grandchildren gave her the greatest joy and pride. For that reason, a visit to H & H's all knew they were welcome, each and every grandchild felt special. Each grandchild was given their own unique love. Her home was welcoming and warm, a place of calm and safety. She was always intrigued with your life and what you were doing. Buns, dill pickles, ponnukokur, rullupylsa, Icelandic brown bread and vinarterta, to mention few, were the rewards you could expect from a trip to H & H's. One of Mom's joys was her passion for gardening, spending hours tending her flower garden. In January the seed catalogues would arrive and order forms were completed in preparation for spring planting. She shared her love of lilies with all who visited. She knitted, sewed and crocheted for her kids and grandkids. Treasures have been cherished by many generations. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service honoring Helen's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Lundar Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Throndson and Cindy Thorkelson officiating. Interment to follow in the Lundar Municipal Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Helen's grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. E. Gergis and all staff at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, to Trina Margaret, Bonnie, Irene and Jamie for the extra TLC, the Home Care Staff, Gail Bindle (our little angel), Florence, Cindy Gail, Judy and Roy and auntie Rose. She was truly an amazing woman with an incredible life story. I was able to tell her something before her passing. That she was the best mother that a son could ever hope for. I don't know why I waited so long but in a way I thought it was like saying goodbye and I wasn't ready to let her go. She knew it was her time and she was ready. Every extra day that she hung on was to keep us happy. Never complaining and always more interested in our lives than us worrying about hers. She passed when she knew the time was right for her family. Always a loving, caring woman who taught us so much about life. She will always be part of me and my family's lives. Sadly missed but never forgotten. Goodbye mother. - Posted by: Greg Malcolm (Son) on: Jan 20, 2014
