Born: May 10, 1930
Date of Passing: Jan 18, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT HENRY SMITH With quiet dignity, our uncle and brother, Robert Henry Smith, passed away at the Selkirk Betel Home on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the age of 83. He leaves to mourn his sister, Yzetta Jonatanson, his cousins, and many nieces and nephews, as well as close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Esther Smith, his brothers, Percy, John and Garnet, and his sisters, Esther, Hazel, Lily, and Sylvia. Born on May 10, 1930, Uncle Bob grew up on the family property north of Selkirk. He never gave up those roots. His favourite place to be was in the bush, on the creek, at one with nature. He enjoyed sharing his interests with his nieces and nephews. We could join him fishing at the docks, wandering the Fair Grounds or at the Highland Gathering, riding his bike in and around town, or at home enjoying a visit with family or friends who chose to drop by. His community was important to him. He offered whatever he had to help out. If you needed help at home, inside or out, he was there. If you hadn't stopped to visit, you would be on his list to drop in. Whenever a charity group called or stopped by he made a donation. He made many friends while working at Booth Fisheries, Freshwater Fish and at Selkirk Lumber. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB with a luncheon at the Selkirk Friendship Center to follow. The interment of his ashes will take place at a later date. The family wishes to thank Dr. Demsas, Dr. Zoppa, and Dr. Lindenschmidt, Bev and Kelly, the staff from Homecare, and the staff at the Betel Home for all their care. If one so desires they may donate in his memory to a charity of one's choice. The plaque at his door so appropriately read: Sit Long, Talk Much Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Uncle Bob was a great person who helped everyone. He was a kind man who had lots of stories to tell. He loved fishing and hunting. Everyone knew him around town as "Uncle Bob". During the past 6 years, he rode his bike to our house and sat outside talking about his life, and helping around our yard. He enjoyed our home made jam and buns and laughed about old times. He still had a smile even during his last few days. We will miss you Uncle Bob. Happy Fishing. - Posted by: Crystal Sather & sons, Joseph, Isaiah, Zechariah and Benjamin (Niece and Nephews) on: Jan 22, 2014

Uncle Bob, we will miss you dearly. The visits at our home in Selkirk, the phone calls once we moved to Thompson. Going to your "Shack down North" or to Matlock for water were times we enjoyed spending with you, Edith will miss you filling her in on the family history as well. Uncle Bob was one of a kind. He was such a big help to us, most of his visits ended up with some kind of tool in his hands! That was him always there to lend a hand! We will always appreciate all of his help. His bicycle drop ins will be greatly missed as much as his stories! We hope that you are back on your bike Uncle Bob! Forever missed, always loved and never forgotten. - Posted by: Darin & Lisa Smith (Niece and nephew ) on: Jan 20, 2014
