GERALD HENRY JOSEPH CHARTIER
Born: Jul 19, 1941
Date of Passing: Jan 20, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALD HENRY JOSEPH CHARTIER July 19, 1941 - January 20, 2014 Gerald "Gerry" passed away at the age of 72 on the morning of January 20, 2014 after struggling a long time with heart disease. He leaves to mourn his children Noel (Lori), Rochelle (Barry), and Tim; the mother to his children MaryAnne; also his grandchildren Brittany, Jessica (Aaron), Garrett, Samantha, Daniel, Kaysen, Jamie (Steve), Brittney, Jayden, Dylan, and great-grandchild Dax. He also leaves to mourn his brother Marcel (Sandra); sisters Annette (Garry) and Lorraine (Rob), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Charlie and mother May. He had numerous buddies too many to mention that he loved as well. Our Dad was born and raised in The Pas, MB, born into a family of entrepreneurs but chose a different career path. He married MaryAnne in 1962 and worked for Manitoba Hydro for a stint but ended up leaving and trying his hand at the hotel industry in what we call our hometown of Pine Falls. When that became too crazy he began his life long career at the local Pulp and Paper Mill until he retired in 1998. Our Dad was an avid fisherman, camper, hunter, etc. and taught all of us everything we needed to know about all of them as he had a great love for nature. Gerry was known as the "jack of all trades" having every tool you could think of. He didn't need a welcome sign on his garage door as he had many buddies that always knew they were welcome for a beer and a funny story, his garage, I'm sure, was the original Man Cave. He will truly be missed by everyone that knew him. We love you Dad . . . missing you every day. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 in the Notre Dame du Laus Roman Catholic Church, Pine Falls, MB, at 11:00 a.m. with a light lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Asper Centre in Winnipeg where they took great care of him. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

My baby brother is gone. It was such a shock to hear this though he no longer has to suffer through his illnesses. Gerry, you will be missed by all of us who were so important to your life. Now you'll be with Mom and Dad and those gone before us. We cherish those camping and fishing trips to MB with you who was always a good host. My prayers are still with you and the family. Our baby sister Lorraine regrets she cannot be in attendance due to her illness, but you already know that. I will miss you tremendously. Love you eternally, Annette & Garry - Posted by: Annette & Garry Padley (Sister to Gerry) on: Jan 23, 2014

Gery was my dad's (Bob Alary's) best friend. I remember as a child going on family camping trips with the Chartier family. Pop up tent trailers and CB radios. Lots of fun and laughter. Good memories. My condolonces to the Chartier family. He was a good man. - Posted by: Jo-Anne Relf (family friend) on: Jan 22, 2014

Our heartfelt condolences to the family. Uncle Jerry will be truly missed especially his sense of humor and his kind heart. He has left us with some wonderful memories of fishing, camping and I personally loved his wonderful gardens of vegetables and flowers. That man had a green thumb. I can remember the last time I was there he took me to see his garden and he showed me around his yard. He was so proud of his work. He were definitely an outdoors man. Uncle Jerry, you leave me with cherished memories and you will always live in my heart. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family at this time of loss. Hugs and love to all the family. - Posted by: Charlene Hunter and family (Niece) on: Jan 22, 2014

Gerry was a friend to anybody and everybody. I first met Gerry through my brother Pat. They, for many years, were inseparable and did almost every outdoor activity from growing gardens to fishing and hunting. One of the favorite remembered quotations from Gerry when things weren't going well, which was later used by many, "Ain't no picnic I'll tell you". To his children, MaryAnne, Marcel and the rest of the family, we, on behalf of the Lemire Family, extend our sincere condolences. - Posted by: Jake LemireJJJacques (FrF) on: Jan 22, 2014
