SHIRLEY ANNE CHURCH (CASSIDY) -
Born: Oct 28, 1943
Date of Passing: Jan 14, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHIRLEY ANNE CHURCH (CASSIDY) 1943 - 2014 It is with deep sorrow and sadness I announce the passing of my precious mother, loving Nana, aunt and friend, Shirley. Peacefully in her sleep, January 14, 2014, she left this world and was reunited with longtime love, Don. Shirley was predeceased by both her parents and three brothers Bobby, Gordie and Harold. She was born October 28, 1943 in New Brunswick and had a simple life that consisted of family and friends. She married in 1962, and moved to Germany where I was born in 1963. Later she moved back to Canada and spent the remainder of her life in Winnipeg. She worked in the hospitality industry where she spent many years working as a hotel manager in many different hotels. She loved the entertainment side and fast pace of this business. Shirley loved to entertain. She loved to cook and bake and was famous for her great recipes, and thanks to her, Christmas was always the best time of year. The happiest time in her life was when she became a Nana. She loved her granddaughters and lived her days focused on them. Shirley will be missed by many. Your daughter Darlene (Jim), and granddaughters, Alexia and Ariana. Your nieces, Deb (Lorenzo) and Lori (Rob) and family. Your lifelong friends Joyce, Frank, Marlene, Sherman, Rick, Mitch and Elise, who had years of memories with you, as well your dearest friends Barb, Judy, and Charlene, who were always loving you and bringing happiness until the very end. As per her request, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held January 31, where Shirley will be laid to rest. Please join us Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at our residence to honour and celebrate Shirley's life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Children's Hospital Foundation CE, 501-840 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1, in memory of Shirley Church. I remember Shirley back in the day. I went to visit her at Superb we had an excellent conversation, she mentioned why she gave up the Balmoral Hotel. I'm crying no wonder couldn't find her on face book. Her Daughter forgot name is Shirley's legacy as they both have exact features. I'd gone with one of my then superb friends to one of her xmas parties, it was truly amazing she had white fluff every where a winter wonderland indoors. Shirley you were always kind to me I'm never going to forget you. I remember you sitting at the desk at Superb with your hair long and full. You've captured the hearts of many G-d bless R.I.P. The last time I seen her was when I went to Superb. We did speak on the phone she gave much information as I questioned a few things I'm using discretion here I don't believe she's gone I'm literally in shock. My family lived in the same apartment building as Shirley and her family when my mom suddenly passed away in 1968. I had just turned thirteen years old and a very difficult time was made a little easier by having a kind and fun loving person like Shirley around. She is remembered with fondness after all these many years. - Posted by: Marilyn (a neighbour from many years ago) on: Jan 30, 2014

Carole and I met Shirley and Don at the Refit Centre many years ago. We and another couple met throughout the years for lunches and we always had a good time. We did this even after Don left us. We still met for lunch and enjoyed our time together. Shirley always had a smile to share even when times got bad. We will miss her now that she has left us. Carole and I were lucky to have had them both as friends. To Darlene and Jim and family, please accept our deepest and heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: John and Carole Marceca (Friends) on: Jan 29, 2014

Met Shirley and Don at the Refit Centre years ago. My late wife and I and Shirley and Don and another couple used to get together at Christmas time and various times throughout the year for lunches. We did do this to this day even after Don passed away. Had fantastic times and fond memories. I am honoured that I met Shirley and Don and found them to be remarkable people and couple. I am grateful that they came into my life. My deepest condolences to Darlene and Jim and to both sides of the families. They will be missed. - Posted by: Steve Vukovich (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2014
