EDNA MAE SHIELLS March 4, 1921 - January 24, 2014 Peacefully on January 24, 2014, Edna passed away at the age of 92 at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB with Robert and Eunice at her side. Edna is survived by her loving children; daughter Carolyn Ferris and her children Tom, Judy, Eddie and Ben; and son Robert (Eunice) Baldwin and their children Clint and Barret along with 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Marie Brickman and Edith Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Robert Baldwin, second husband Roy Shiells, parents Ralph and Dorothy Nichols and son-in-law Dale Ferris. Edna was born on March 4, 1921, in Winnipeg, MB. She moved with her family from Fort Whyte to Steep Rock in 1929. Edna was employed at the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Ashern prior to her marriage of Robert Baldwin on March 21, 1943. They resided in Steep Rock where they raised their family. Edna enjoyed her flower garden and vegetable garden. Many newlyweds had their wedding pictures taken in Edna's rock garden. Her yard looked like a park. She enjoyed cooking and baking, made delicious salads and fabulous vinetarta. In her earlier years, Edna enjoyed the outdoors and went camping, fishing and even tried her hand at hunting. She was an avid curler and enjoyed bonspiels with friends and family. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Ladies Legion Auxiliary and the 4-H in Steep Rock. Husband Robert Baldwin tragically deceased on June 10, 1957 at the Canada Cement Plant at Steep Rock. Edna married Roy Shiells on June 29, 1962. They were together until Roy's death on January 24, 2012. She remained in her home for 70 years until September 2013 when she moved to Ashern. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service with a lunch to follow. Interment will be held in the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. Those attending the interment are to meet at the gates of the Brookside Cemetery on Notre Dame no later than 3:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Clint and Barret Baldwin, Doug McGiffin, Jim Smith, Travis Fredberg and Ben Ferris. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital for their excellent care they provided Edna. Also thanks to the workers and staff of Home Care. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Edna to the E. M.
