Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBEATRIE IRENE MCLEAN 1917 - 2014 Peacefully on January 26, 2014, our mom, Bea McLean, age 96, passed away at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre, Winnipeg. She will be missed by her daughters, Jacquie and husband, George Stew, Gibsons, BC, Maureen Buchanan (Gerald Buchanan, deceased), Winnipeg, and Debra McLean, Winnipeg, and her grandson, Dan Buchanan, Winnipeg. Also surviving are her nephews and their respective families: Gary Temple, Lake Metigoshe, MB, Don and Pat Temple, Waskada, MB, Bill and Margaret Lyle, Flin Flon, MB, and step-grandchildren, Gloria Singendonk, Calgary, AB and Pamm Ruth, Gibsons, BC with their respective families. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman McLean, in 1997. She was also predeceased by her close family of parents Wes and Mabel Stevenson, sisters Helen Lyle, Anne Stevenson, Edythe Stevenson, Jean Temple, and brothers-in-law, Al Lyle and Mel Temple. Mom, born on November 23, 1917 at Waskada, MB, was the youngest of the "five Stevenson girls". She was raised in a close knit family and always considered Waskada to be "home". Mom and dad were married on March 3, 1942; they enjoyed 55 years together. Their married life took them to Dauphin Beach during the war and then to Oak Lake, MB. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1952 and lived in the Crescentwood and Fort Garry communities. Mom moved to Lindenholm condominiums in 1996 but dad was never able to join her in their new home. When mom required more care, she moved to supportive housing at Harmony Court in 2009 and then to the Golden Door Centre in August, 2013. Mom was always active in her communities, her church (Harrow United) and the lives of her daughters and grandson. Her support for all their activities was boundless. Mom's skills and interests included her expertise in sewing and other handicrafts, playing bridge, square dancing, being part of the knitting club and dinner club while at Lindenholm Place and attending the Symphony Pops concerts. In later years, mom enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Cruising was a favourite including a family cruise to Alaska hosted by her for her family in 2004. We are grateful we had our mom in our lives for so many years. She is now at peace with her beloved Norm and her sisters. Cremation has occurred. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg with reception to follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. A donation could be considered to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2; the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or a charity of one's choice. Maureen...have lost track of your info. Sorry to hear about your dear mom. In every memory I have of her she was smiling. Wasn't it a wonderful longtime friendship with our mothers? They will always be missed. Thinking of you and how kind you were when my mom passed away. Donna - Posted by: Donna Anderson () on: Feb 09, 2014

Mrs. McLean was always such a positive woman who brought joy into the room. I remember Jacquie telling me that Bea sewed Norm's business suits and the ladies in the office used to make him take off his jacket and show them the lining as it was always as well done on the inside as the out. When Jacquie and I were young women in Calgary she was always the best dressed of the group thanks to Bea's care packages of lovely and fashionable workwear. Jacquie, Maureen and Deb - you have been blessed to have your wonderful Mom for all these years. My thoughts are with the three of you and your extended families. Always remember Mrs. McLean as a caring an interested person when we were growing up in the Cresentwood area. You were always welcomed in the house whether it be for hot chocolate or just warm up. I met Bea again when my mother-in-law and father-in-law were both house in harmony court supportive housing. We had some great talks she was such a great person. I met Bea while Working for MSOS Travel and we were on many Bus trips to Southern states. Bea was one of a group when living in her condo at Lindenhome Place. Lots of fun and a gracious lady, I had lost track of her in later years but I will always remember her. My thoughts are with the family. Mervyn - Posted by: Mervyn McGregor (Friend) on: Jan 30, 2014
