JANIS LYNNE DESROCHERS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janis Lynne Desrochers on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Janis leaves behind husband Ken, daughter Chantelle, sisters Claudette (Dennis Felbel), Maureen, sister-in-law Doreen Davies, niece Tara Joy Davies, and nephews Wayne Davies and Lucas Felbel. Janis will always be remembered as a warm, thoughtful and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She was most proud of her greatest accomplishment, her daughter Chantelle. All who knew her admired how she walked away from a career at the City of Winnipeg to be with Chantelle and felt blessed to be with her each day. Janis returned to the work force later and joined J.E.D.S. Construction for a time, then later Club Administrator at Greendell Community Centre. Janis built strong friendships with the staff and volunteers at Greendell. Although only minutes from home, she always stayed for lunch to enjoy the company, conversations and potluck with her club friends. Janis cherished the suppers with her childhood friends, and also the trips to Mexico and Thirsty Thursdays with the poolside girls. Janis' loving friends stood beside her during these difficult months and were of great comfort to her and her family. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at CancerCare Manitoba for helping us during this time. Thank you to the staff on the 6th floor of St. Boniface Hospital. Your kindness to Janis these last six weeks will not be forgotten. Please support the Manitoba Cancer Society by donating or volunteering: 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. • I will always remember her kind smile and gentle ways. Although, very belated, (I wish someone had contacted me) I send my sincere thoughts and prayers. Hugs, Tricia Barnabe - Posted by: Tricia Barnabe (high school friend) on: Aug 07, 2014

  • Ken and Chantelle: I was saddened to here the news of Janis' passing. Although I haven't seen her for a long time I have such nice memories of her when we were on the Dr. Penner parent council together. We were a force to be reckoned with! Janis was always willing to do what was needed, and always had a smile on her face. I loved her voice and especially her laugh! Janis had "stars in her eyes"! Be gentle with yourselves. She was taken too soon. Kathy Gerylo - Posted by: Kathy Gerylo (Friend) on: Feb 13, 2014

  • Our deepest sympathies to you, Ken and Chantelle. Janis was a beautiful person and a great friend to so many. I will always remember her laugh, her smile and our great times talking and sometimes singing and dancing at Thirsty Thursday. Until we meet again Janis. • Janis could make a room come to life with her huge smile, unforgettable laughter and her keen sense of humor. For us time spent at the picnic table whether it be after supper each night or a Friday afternoon with kids, moms and Pete, will always be cherished. Janis led the way with helping to organize activities for the cul de sac kids but she also made sure cul de sac parents had a good time. Oh how Pete and I remember Halloween parties, New Year Eve get togethers, shuffleboard parties, hot tub parties and yes of course just impromptu get togethers at the picnic table. Although we lost touch as our sons got older and the picnic table in the middle of the cul de sac became less used, that did not diminish our thoughts of great neighbours especially Janis! Janis was always someone who cared and loved a good time. She made you forget your woes. To Pete and I she embodied the true sense of neighbour. She will be missed greatly. - Posted by: Cheryl & Peter Kohanek (Cul de sac friends) on: Feb 07, 2014

  • I'm so honoured to have had such a great mom. You may have left this world's journey early, but your impact on the lives you've touched are a lifetime. You were the best person to talk about anything, my friends and your friends can agree. I'm so happy with the unconditional love you gave me and you were the best friend I could have asked for. There's going to be many days that I'll need you and I know you're going to be there with me. Heck now you'll always know where I am and won't be worried about me. Love you Lois, Yan, Yanis, Janis and most importantly I love you mom <3 From willamina (your ugly step child) - Posted by: Chantelle (Daughter) on: Feb 07, 2014

  • Janis, you were the first one that I met when I moved into the neighbourhood. Your beautiful smile, sense of humour and gentle demeanor made my transition so much easier. You have always been there for all of us but I was the one that was blessed with having you as Friend. We will miss you at our Diva (Circle of Friends) get togethers but you will always be in our hearts. Now 47 years later, We Will Celebrate Your Life. You were taken from all of us too soon, but we know that you will be there overlooking us and laughing at our conversations. Ken and Chantel, you will always have her in your heart. - Posted by: Lucy Daeninck () on: Feb 07, 2014

  • Ken & Chan, we are so very sorry for your loss, Janis was a beautiful lady with a huge heart, she will be Truly missed. She wasn't just a mother to Chan, she was a mother to all the girls and they all loved her just as much. We were blessed to have Janis in our lives. Heaven has another amazing angel , but she will always be with her little Polly pocket, luv you Chan! Much love, Bob, Sher & Kirstin Tuck - Posted by: Sherry tuck (Friend) on: Feb 07, 2014

  • Now to celebrate your life Janis. Fond memories brings me back to us swimming at Provencher pool (outdoors) every summer break. We would swim until we grew fins. We would run home for supper than back for the evening swim and then trying to talk the lifeguards in to letting us keep swimming after close. Which of course we did - this is where I'm sure we learned we had outgoing personalities. Janis and I thought we could win at Notre Dame Friday night entertainment from us putting a singing duet together singing "raindrops keep falling on my head" but we're told to find another hobby. Ha! My mother and Janis's mother Paulette Gaudry were best friends and my sister Sharon and Janis's sister Claudette were best friends. Close family ties. Within the last few years I would walk and stop in on Janis at Greendell community club and we could pick up our conversations right where we left off no matter how much time lapsed between us. You left us all too soon my friend but you will always bring a smile and a laugh thinking of you - to Ken and Chantelle - she will be watching you closely with her big white beautiful wings..... • Janis and I met during my tenure on the Greendell board. Janis was an absolute joy to work with! We had many lively conversations over the years during our frequent interactions and we became not just work associates, but friends. Janis had such a warm, loving and engaging personality it was easy to share the trials and tribulations of our lives with each other. No matter what our topic of conversation, it always ended with laughter. The world was a better place with her in it and she will be dearly missed. My sincere condolences to her family. - Posted by: Gabrielle Marrin (Friend) on: Feb 06, 2014

  • Janis will always be remembered by me as the girl I admired most in high school. Janis was always impecably dressed, make-up, hair, her nails. Always a girlie girl, her laugh and smile were contageous. Watching her dance at Friday night sock hops at the school. I was in Grand Forks many years ago at Perkins I heard a laugh and said to my Mother, that's Janis...I went over and sure enough it was, we figured it had to be at least 10 years since we'd seen each other. To Ken and Chantelle, my most sincere sympathy. - Posted by: Catherine (Cane) Dearman (high school friend) on: Feb 06, 2014

  • I want to send my heartfelt sympathy to Ken, Chantelle, Claudette, Maureen, Doreen, the other family members and friends. You were such a sincere, loyal, loving wife, mom, sister, aunt and friend with such a big heart. I have been very blessed to have had Janis as a friend since childhood. You were my voice of reason and were always there for me, in good times and bad. When I think of you I instantly think of your contagious smile and laugh. I have said to you that you were my angel here on earth, and now you will be my angel in heaven. I will deeply miss you and you will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Susie Grisim (Pelican) (Frient) on: Feb 05, 2014

  • I met Janis when our children attended Junior High together but came to know her better through our Greendell relationship. A beaming smile, easy laugh and warm welcome were received by anyone who entered those doors. We shared many laughs and a few tears over the years. Janis spoke often about her family and friends with love and pride. She will be missed. Rita - Posted by: Rita Mymko (Greendell Friend) on: Feb 05, 2014

  • May I offer my sincerest sympathies to Ken and Chantelle, Claudette and family, and Maureen and "The Divas", you know who you are. Janis will leave a lasting impression on all those who knew her. I was very saddened to hear of Janis' passing which is all too soon. It just seems like yesterday we were planning the Grad Reunion, laughing it up recalling Louis Riel escapades!! As always, Janis was the leader of the pack. Her giving and warm personality accompanied by that smile will be always be in my mind. Thanks for the memories dear friend. • Just wanted to say it has been an honour and privilege to know you Janis for over 50 years on this earth (though I know our relationship will continue spiritually). I will always remember your beautiful smile, great sense of humour, all the great times with the divas, your great devotion to Chantelle and Ken. I know you are now their guardian angel. I know when we get together for our "lifelong friends" dinners you will be with us in spirit. Love always, Suzie Savoie. - Posted by: Suzanne Savoie (Friend) on: Feb 05, 2014

  • Although we lost touch, you were always in my thoughts and in my heart. Heaven will have an amazing ANGEL. My sympathy to Ken and Chantelle. - Posted by: Jackie Deschamps (friend) on: Feb 04, 2014

  • Janis, growing up you were one of my favourite mom's of all the parents I knew as a kid, ever since my Penner days with Chantelle. I remember hoping I'd be put in Mrs. Desrochers group for the field trips you'd volunteer for, because you were one of the coolest moms I had ever met. (And secretly, sometimes I was a little jealous you weren't mine!) You were always easy to talk to and kept a warm energy around you everywhere you went - a constant glow that never went unnoticed. Even just hearing your name I can visualize your smiling face and that warmhearted laugh in your voice - the 2 things that I've always admired about you and never got to tell you, even when I was a little girl. My heart goes out to the Desrochers family these hard times. She was an amazing lady and will always be remembered that way. < - Posted by: A Fellow Penner/Darwin/Dakota Grad (Family has known the Desrochers since Preschool days) on: Feb 04, 2014

  • Ken, Chantelle, Claudette, Maureen and families, we were so sorry to hear of the passing of Janis. It is hard to believe Richard & I won't be seeing her on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, but know in our hearts that she is walking with us on those same beaches. It was great to always catch up with family news and just have lots of laughs!! She will remain forever in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Love and God bless. - Posted by: Debbie & Richard Klyne, and the Lagimodiere's (Cousins) on: Feb 04, 2014

  • Dear precious Janis, We've had many memories together - from kindergarten to high school; to working at D.I.; to standing up for you at your wedding, and through the many stages of raising our children. We've shared many dinners with the girls and had quite a blast at our Diva Weekends at Albert Beach where you were always begging us to do our 'interpretive' dancing. We laughed so hard our stomachs hurt. What great memories we have of you, my dear friend. We saw a lot of 'Paulette' in you when we needed advice on absolutely anything - since your mom was also a mentor to many of us. Now you can both watch over us and steer us in the right direction! We will miss your laughter, your beautiful smile, your sage advice, your kindness and thoughtfulness to everyone. But especially, your wonderful stories filled with pride and love for your daughter Chantelle, your husband Ken, Your life on this earth was short - but you will remain our angel forever. God bless you Janis and I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to Chantelle and Ken, Maureen, Claudette, Dennis, Lucas and Doreen, Tara and Wayne and all of your many friends - as there are so many of us with heavy hearts. You will be missed - my dear dear friend. You will always be in my heart. - Posted by: Pauline BĂ©langer (Friend ) on: Feb 04, 2014

  • Ken and Chantelle Our most sincere sympathies on the passing of your lovely wife and mother, Janis. We will always remember her great smile and radiant personality. She was such a good friend to our sisters Pauline and Julie who would regale us with stories of their birthday luncheons and dinners. Chuck met Janis at Costco last year and her warm greeting and happy demeanour belied the fact that she was already ailing! Ken: We really feel for you as we knew you as Ron's best friend in those teenage years. God bless you and Chantelle. May He give you strength and courage. We will be with you in spirit as we are away on vacation. Gitsy and Chuck - Posted by: Guy and Charlotte Chateau (Friends) on: Feb 04, 2014

  • Ken and Chantelle, words simply cannot express how sorry we are for your loss. She was such a beautiful lady and I will always remember her smiling. I admired her for how wonderful a mother she was to Chantelle. As our daughters grew up together, Janis was always looking out for all the other girls as well, for which I am very grateful. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Cari and Carlos Goncalves (Friends) on: Feb 04, 2014

  • Janis was a wonderful friend to my family. My youngest son was at the club every day from the age of 5 to around 14 and Janis kept an eye on him and became a mentor to him as well. I will miss seeing her when I drop in for coffee with the Greendell gang and the talks we had about our children and life. You will be sorely missed Janis and I am so glad to have known you. I know you will be looking down on us always. Debbie Ostlere - Posted by: Debbie Ostlere (Greendell Friend) on: Feb 04, 2014
