Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGREGORY LORNE ANDERSON September 26, 1955 - February 1, 2014 On February 1, 2014, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, Greg passed away surrounded by family at the Gimli Community Health Centre. He was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Doris Anderson. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother and sisters; Kathy (Brent) Sigurdson, Gord (Cindy) Anderson, Elin (Lawrence) Johnson, Lorraine (Hugh) Collins and Karen Anderson. Nieces and nephews; Ryan (Melanie) Johnson, Darren (Bridget) Johnson, Stephen (Stephanie) Sigurdson, Paul Sigurdson, Chris Sigurdson (Kirsten), Garry (Jackie) Anderson, Allison Anderson (Murray), Derrick (Brittney) Anderson, Melissa (John) Palen, Angela Collins, Megan Collins (Wade), Great-nieces and nephews; Sofia, Sawyer, Lucas and Lexie Anderson, Molly Monkman, Taylor and Dylan Johnson, Hugh and Jaxon Palen. Greg was a strong, independent person who never let life's hardships get him down. After his accident landed him in a wheelchair, he had to give up his career as a licensed carpenter. He went back to school and completed his Business Administration course and worked many years for the Federal Government in Winnipeg. Fifteen years ago, he moved back to Gimli. Greg was a member of the Gimli and District Kiwanis Club for over 30 years. Many of those years he spent as treasurer. He was a hardworking, dedicated member who was at every event. Greg was also treasurer for the Eastern Interlake Handi-Van for many years. He also spent a short time as a member of the Gimli Betel Advisory Board. Greg was a huge help to Mom and Dad in their last years. He drove many a trip to Winnipeg for appointments or just for a day of fun. He loved to check out the latest infrastructure, go out for a nice supper, and even the occasional stop at the casinos. Greg loved family and always enjoyed getting everyone together for a family supper. He was quite a chef and was constantly researching new recipes. He was a master bread maker and always supplied the family with Icelandic brown bread for Christmas. Greg will be sadly missed by all of us. He never complained about anything life dealt him and was an inspiration to us all. The family would like to thank Dr. Rhoma and the wonderful staff at Gimli Community Health Centre for their care and compassion towards Greg and his family. As per Greg's wishes, no formal service will be held. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eastern Interlake Handi-Van or Interlake Palliative Care. Love you forever. Rest in Peace. I worked with Greg on the 2011 Federal Election in the data entry area and quickly recognized his expertise with respect to various computer programs. He was a great person to work with and was respected by everyone. I hired him as my Data Entry Supervisor for the Gimli Electoral District in the 2011 Provincial Election. Greg played a large part in the running of a successful election in our Electoral District. We spent hours working together and enjoyed every minute. He will be sorely missed. - Posted by: David Douglas Returning Officer, Gimli Electoral District, 2011 (Friend) on: Feb 05, 2014
