RAINIE PRYCE MCKINNON With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rainie Pryce McKinnon of Gimli, MB, on February 4, 2014, aged 90 years, beloved husband of Alyce. Rainie was born in Russell, MB on August 11, 1923 to parents, Jack and Nettie McKinnon. He was the youngest of five sons: Nelson, Garfield, Don, and Pete. Rainie joined the R.C.A.F. in 1942. He went overseas as part of a joint R.A.F. unit and served as a tail gunner. He returned home and married Alyce Dunn in their hometown of Russell on February 27, 1946. Rainie and Alyce moved to The Pas, MB and started their family. Rainie worked for the Game Branch, the CN Railway and owned Bert's Quick Freeze. At age 42, Rainie had a calling to the ministry of the United Church. He graduated from the University of Winnipeg. This second career spanned 40 years serving several Manitoba congregations, where his booming voice and caring message touched the lives of thousands of people. Rainie and Alyce retired to Gimli and enjoyed many days of golf, their church and their community. Rainie was predeceased by his daughter Shannon. He leaves to cherish his memories, loving wife Alyce, children Bill (Judy), Rob, Bruce (Candace), son-in-law Clarence, and daughter Maureen (Jim); grandchildren, Lyle (Charity), Jill (Scott), Evan (Erin), Aaron, Heather (Horace), Brent, Alicia (Craig), Kristen, Lisa (Dale) and Lisa Longley; great-grandchildren Tiffany, Kaitlyn (Richard), Orrin (Stefanie), Jarrett, Jake, McKenzie, Kiera, Emily, Peter, Juliana, Nicholas and Anitra; great-great-grandchildren Hayden and Jayden; his brother Pete, and sister-in-law Eva along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Rainie was a kind and gentle man, always smiling that great smile. When you stopped in to visit, he made you feel like it was the best thing that happened to him. He treated everyone with dignity and respect and everyone around him could feel that love. We will miss his clever wit, story-telling and sense of humour. Rainie's faith never waivered and this quality made him a teacher and a mentor for many. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Wong, Carolyn Kawaleski, Brenda Krulicki, all past and present home care workers, the staff of the Gimli Community Health Centre and the EMS for their care and concern for Rainie and our family. A special thanks needs to be extended to Alyce for her love and devotion to Rainie for nearly 68 years of marriage. From the first time Grandpa threw a stone at her horse on the way to school, he knew she was the love of his life. Her love, support and caring will always be remembered and cherished by our family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gimli Lutheran Church. Everyone who knew Rainie should consider themselves an honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gimli Lutheran Church, Box 118, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
