Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELENA WATRAL It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helena on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the age of 84. Helena is survived by son Walter (Brenda) and grandchildren Marika and Matthew whom she loved dearly. Also left to cherish her memory are her nieces Nadia Vasas and Irene Cwyk and their families in Winnipeg, as well as many extended family members in Poland. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2012 her parents Alexei and Maria and her nine siblings. Born September 4, 1929, in Stawisza, Ukraine, she immigrated to Winnipeg in 1967 to join her fiancé John. They were married at Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church where they remained parishioners for more than 35 years before becoming parishioners at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church in 2004. Helena was able to remain at home under John's loving care until January, 2011, when she moved to Holy Family Home, St. Francis unit. The staff there cared for her with great skill and compassion. Helena was an excellent cook, a seamstress, a gardener and, above all, a sweet and kind person with a joyful soul, who will be remembered most for her love of her family. The family is grateful for the expert, kind and compassionate care provided by staff in the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department and Wards GA4 and GD4. In particular, we would like to thank nurses Krysta and Karen and student nurse Sandy, as well as resident Dr. Signy Holmes and attending physician Dr. D. Robinson. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Ave., with Fr. D. Kawiuk officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
