KATHLEEN JUDITH (JUDY) PATTERSON
Date of Passing: Feb 05, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN JUDITH (JUDY) PATTERSON (née RUSSELL) Peacefully, on February 5, 2014, after a long courageous battle with ALS, Judy Patterson passed away. She is predeceased by her loving husband Ron (December 30, 2013) and by her parents, Thomas and Merle Russell. Judy will be forever remembered by her four sons Ronald (Janet), James (Kathy), Russell (Linda) and Robert (Heather); sister Susan Pickering and two brothers Thomas (Ann) Russell and James Russell. Judy also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Leia, Jessica, Gabriel, Alexandra, Sage, Caroline, Reed and Matthew. Born and raised in St.Vital, Judy spent most of her youth involved in Girl Guides, CGIT and church groups at St.Vital United. She took pleasure in family camping trips and spending time with lifelong friends Maureen, Barb and Dianememories which she dearly cherished. Judy married the love of her life Ron at United College Chapel on August 24, 1963 - recently celebrating their 50th anniversary. Together with their boys, Judy and Ron enjoyed trips to Jamaica, Barbados, summers at Falcon Lake and numerous outdoor activities. During this time, Judy was a dedicated wife, mother and role model. As a graduate of United College, Judy took pride in educating herself both personally and professionally. She enjoyed working at Eaton's and MTS. As her boys grew older, she returned to the work force as a sales representative, winning a national sales award for Company's Coming. Judy was an integral part of their home based business as it transitioned from construction to gift store marketing and sales. She also took great pride in all of her sons' activities, attending all school and sporting events. This continued on later in life as she became a grandmother - participating in many of her grandchildren's activities, hosting sleepovers, cooking together and making them clothes and blankets. In the last five years Judy continued her learning with the Life Group from Immanuel Pentecostal Church - improving her already impressive knowledge of the bible and challenging Pastor Scott to its meaning each week. Due to the advancement of ALS, the Life Group accommodated Judy and Ron by meeting in their home each Wednesday, which they were grateful for. Judy was a model of strength, courage, faith and grace as ALS progressed. She was a shining example of perseverance, style and honour. She never asked "Why me?" - instead turning an arduous situation into a positive learning and teaching opportunity. In her last days, Judy expressed how wonderful her life was. She had a home, a cottage at Falcon Lake, four healthy sons, four daughters-in-law and eight grandchildren. She had no regrets and believed she was truly blessed. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the ALS Society of Manitoba, especially Diana Rasmussen, for all their help - whenever Mom needed something you were there with it right away! We would also like to acknowledge the kindness and dedication of the entire staff of the 3rd floor, East Wing at Riverview Care Centre - thank you for your time and your caring, tender hands. Finally, the support of Deere Lodge Centre and the Immanuel Pentecostal Church congregation and staff is dearly appreciated. There are no words to express our gratitude for the love and care of Merlinda, Coleen and Abbey. You were a huge part of both Mom and Dad's life and are considered a part of the family! Ma'am Judy and Sir Ron loved you all! In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Society of Manitoba would be graciously accepted, 493 Madison Street, Winnipeg, MB R3J 1J2. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 1:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Pentecostal Church, 955 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB. I was a friend of her brother Tom back in the 1960s. I see she lived in River Heights on Cordova Street near Cordova Park. I am a lifelong River Heights resident having lived not far away, first on Campbell Street and now on Borebank Street. My condolences to all of you and her sister and brothers. She suffered a long time but now she is at peace in Heaven. - Posted by: Edwin Peart () on: Feb 08, 2014
