SYDNEY GERALD KING November 3, 1957 - February 3, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend Sydney (Syd) after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Syd passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Victoria General Hospital on February 3, 2014, at the age of 56. Syd was born on November 3, 1957 in Eriksdale, Manitoba where he was raised by his parents George and Violet King. He followed in his father's footsteps and found his long time career with CN where he retired in 2012 after 37 years. In 1979 he met the love of his life Patsy with whom he married on August 28, 1982. They moved to Winnipeg where they started their family and had their first of two children Jeffrey in 1985 followed by their daughter Jennifer in 1989. Syd's greatest achievements were his wife and two children whom he loved very much. Syd was very happy to see his two children settled down with the loves of their lives. He thought very highly of them and considered them as his own. Syd will always be remembered for being a family man first and foremost, his love of the Minnesota Vikings, trains, Duck Dynasty, gardening and his favourite saying "piece of junk". Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 31 years, Patsy; their children Jeffrey (Colleen), Jennifer (Brian); his brothers Lloyd (Dian), Gordie (Rose), Ken (Cindy); brothers-in-law Gary (Marcella), David (Carol-Ann), Don (Patti), Dan (Laura), and many nieces, nephews and cousins; extended family Diane (John); his long-time friend Rolly; his many friends from CN, and his precious teddy bear' dog Shawtzy. Syd was predeceased by his loving parents George and Violet; his brothers Raymond, Brian; sister Shelly Anne; sister-in-law Wendy King, and father and mother-in-law Charlie and Pat Burdett. As per his request cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Eriksdale Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Lunch will follow at the Eriksdale Recreational Centre. Pallbearers will be his two children Jeffrey and Jennifer with honorary pallbearers being Colleen and Brian. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of the Victoria General Hospital for such great care in his final days, especially one of his nurses Linda for her great care and attentiveness during his time of need. We would also like to thank Dr. Wong and staff of CancerCare Manitoba who provided him with great care and support throughout his long battle.
