RENATE HANNALORE CUSHNIE It is with sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of Renate Hannalore Cushnie (nee Derksen) on February 5, 2014 at 62 years of age. Renate is survived by her husband James and her loving children Crystal and Curtis (Lindsay). She also leaves her grandchildren Kyle, Tyler, Ryan and Emma; her brother Klaus; and sister June (Rob); many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her mother Gertrude Derksen in 1981 and father Peter Derksen in 2013. Renate was born August 14, 1951, in Rostock, Germany. She immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1956. Winnipeg was always her home. She was a wonderful mother and a wonderful friend. She spent most of her life caring for people and being a loving caregiver. She gave of herself endlessly to anyone that needed a hand. Her door was always open for people to visit and have a good conversation over a cup of coffee. Walking through Assiniboine Park allowed her to express her love for animals, and where she met many new friends. Passing her home, one could see the enjoyment and pride she took in her garden. She will be greatly missed by all lives she touched. A "Come and Go" Celebration of Renate's life will be held on Tuesday, February 11, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. with tributes at 3:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5Y4. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, 55 Pavilion Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2N6 or The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. • June, So sorry. I met Renate only once. Your affection for one another was obvious and her commitment to hard work was obvious as well. May light perpetual shine upon her. Jeri - Posted by: Jeri Bjornson () on: Feb 08, 2014

  • My heart feels so heavy with grief right now. I miss you so much. By now, you and I should be taking our winter walks down Assiniboine River with the dogs, weaving through the trees in the woods along the bank. We had great talks along the way and tried to solve the world problems. We enjoyed the chance glimpse of an eagle soaring above and expressed how lucky we were to see it. The park and the river will never be the same without you. I love you. Say "Hi" to dad. You are together once again. - Posted by: June Derksen (Sister) on: Feb 08, 2014
