SVEN IVOR EDBOM
Born: Jul 12, 1917
Date of Passing: Feb 07, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySVEN IVOR EDBOM Peacefully, on Friday, February 7, 2014 Sven passed from this life at the age of 96 years. He is now reunited with his beloved eldest daughter Beverly Goodman, who predeceased him in 2009. He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife Joan, daughter Sandie Denhard (Alvin), four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Cindy Kennedy (Stephen) children Breanna and Jaxin, Bob Knight (Lisa), son Shane, Dianne Wiebe (Jaime), daughter Kelsey and Ryan Denhard (Shannon) children Cordyn, Kyra, Mickenzie and Keltyn. Sven was born in Piney, Manitoba on July 12, 1917 and remained there until the onset of the Second World War, when in June of 1940 he enlisted in the army with the Royal Canadian Engineers. In September of that same year he was sent overseas where he served his country in England and various parts of Europe. During his time in England he met and married the love of his life, Frederica Joan Self. He was honorably discharged from the army on July 19, 1945 and Joan joined him in Canada, along with their young daughter Beverly shortly thereafter. After the war, Sven worked mostly on construction and he was an exceptionally talented carpenter. By the time he was 50 years old he found construction work becoming too difficult especially in the winter, working in the cold- so he was hired by Manitoba Hydro in their Maintenance Department where he earned a great deal of respect for his work ethics and abilities. He worked there until he retired at age 65. Even after his retirement, he continued his involvement with Hydro. He and several of his buddies volunteered their time each and every Tuesday to spend the day together, restoring electrical items from long past in preparation of the opening of the Hydro Electrical Museum. It was a project that brought him a great deal of happiness and pride. Sven was a member of the Hydro X group and he and Joan went on many tours with the group to various locations around the country. He also belonged to the St. James Legion, Branch # 4 and the Independent Order of Forresters (IOOF). Sven also took great pleasure in taking Joan out on many occasions for an evening of old time dancing. The most important thing in life to Sven was his family, and he was totally devoted to us all. We shall miss him dearly, but oh how blessed each of us are that we had him in our lives. A memorial service for Sven will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at St. Pierre Bible Fellowship Church, 488 Lavoie Avenue, St. Pierre Jolys. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to Deer Lodge, Tower 7: 2109 Portage Avenue Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3 or a charity of one's choice. "You were the wind beneath my wings" All my love, Joan. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
