GARRY WARD BURNETT (BARNEY) It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the passing of our partner, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa after the hardest fought battle with cancer on February 7, 2014. Dad left peacefully with the love, comfort and support of his family at his bedside. Left to cherish the love, support and guidance he displayed to us throughout our lives are his incredible partner of 18 years Denise; daughter Shannon (Rob); sons Gord and wife Monica, Clayton and wife Liz; grandchildren Randi, Kaili, Garry, Gattlin, Mykenna, Brendon and Logan; his great-grandson Liam; his best bud Kelly; "son" Shawn; sisters Bonnie and Faye and brother Barry. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 26 years, Darlene, parents Ernest and Elsie, father and mother-in-law Arman and Liz Goodman; brother Tommy; sisters Shirron and Shirley; sister-in-law Bev; Ma Bednarek; "brother" Stan and numerous family, extended family and friends. Dad spent the majority of his life living in the RM of Grahamdale and doing what he loved best trucking. He loved what the land gave him and enjoyed many hours hunting, time fishing with anyone who wanted to drop a line, spending time with family and friends and "Barneyizing" anything and everything that needed fixing or adjusting. So many will have memories of a man who helped all, nudged them in the right direction, and was a true friend. Our family wishes to thank all at CancerCare Manitoba, the truly amazing staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, and our friends and family. Most importantly, we kids want to thank an amazing lady for the love, devotion, care, and support given to Dad. Denise, we love you. To Brenda, you were a rock to all of us. As per Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at a later date. Pallbearers will be sons Gord and Clayton and grandsons Garry, Gattlin, Brendon and Logan. Honorary pallbearer will be great- grandson Liam. Because of Dad's love of dogs, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 Hammer down Dad on that highway in the sky! We all love you, will miss you, and will forever cherish all you passed down to us and instilled in us. Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOME Ashern Lundar 1-204-768-2072 1-866-323-3593

Garry Burnett...You brought so many memories to our family, new places, new friends. I remember you in your glasses and your smile, telling me how it is, straight up. I never listened, but I had my first shot of tequila in your house with your boy Clayton, I musta been 13 yrs old, grey cup Sunday. What a gathering that one was. Bonfires every single time we went over, a cold beer for my dad, Larry Morgan, always. You took me fishing in Steeprock when no one else wanted to go, either at baseball or hungover, or more likely both!!! I remember the garage in the quarry, I turned 16, and drove my dads chevy down that steep hill off to the side, and got hung up on a boulder, bent the tie rod end, but you laughed and said call so and so, they will come get you out and said you would not tell my ol'man Your ol neighbour, Charley, the Hells Indian on that ol Indian motorbike of his, miss ya Charley too, I guess you guys are fishing and and telling bigger and bigger stories now on the big lake up there. Keep some fresh bait for the rest of us, so when we meet up again, I wont have to tell ya, I forgot the bait again. - Posted by: Ryan Morgan (family friend) on: Mar 01, 2016

Our deepest sympathy to Denise and family. Workload and cold usually kept us from coming to Steep Rock in winter but we'll never forget how after showing up one evening and getting stuck on the road leading to our cottage Garry showed up and offered help. He plowed the road and our driveway and did not want anything for it. I've been trying to show my appreciation by stopping by every time I come up to Steep Rock ever since. He will be missed. - Posted by: Walter Antos (Seasonal neighbour in Steeprock) on: Feb 27, 2014

Garry was a wonderful, caring, larger than life character. No one I have ever met worked harder than he did. Gary played hard and enjoyed life to its fullest. My mother had a very special place in her heart for Gary as he did her. You were taken way too early Garry so the Lord must have a big job that needs doing. You will be missed but certainly not forgotten. Rest in peace my friend. To Shannon, Gordie, Clayton, spouses and families - May God keep you strong and keep you close to one another as you deal with this terribly hard and emotional time. - Posted by: Ron Dirr (Cousin in-law) on: Feb 14, 2014

A story that sticks in my head would be when I was around nine years old and living at our house on 1st street west. I can't remember why, but I seemed to have made dad REALLY mad at me. I ran outside and when he told me to get back inside, I laughed and ran down the path. Dad told his buddies, Jimmy and Danny I believe, that he'd be right back. He got up and chased me down the back path, through the Kinsmen Lake gate and down the car entrance into the park....IN COWBOY BOOTS! After planting his left boot right up my arse,I went for a tumble. Dad picked me up,slapped me on the back and said,"Never thought the ol' man was that fast eh?!" He was right! I never knew those cowboy boots had a high gear. He then put me on his back and way we went, back to the house. As powerful a man as everyone knew him to be,we all knew it was his heart that made him the man people came to love. Dad,you may not be here, but you'll never leave. :-) - Posted by: Clayton burnett (Son) on: Feb 12, 2014
