EDITH DOROTHY FISCHER Edith Dorothy Fischer passed away peacefully at the Riverview Personal Care Home on February 13, 2014. She was born in Morden Manitoba on May 16, 1924 to Charles and Winnifred Gould (nee Reeves). Edith is survived by her husband Arthur Henry Fischer, her son Donald (Janice) of Winnipeg, grandsons Jeffrey and Keith, daughter Donna McIntosh (Nick Lastoria), granddaughters Bonnie Willers (Michael), Kathleen McIntosh (Paul Gibson), Cheryl Williams (Gareth), Jill McIntosh and great-grandchildren Gabriel, Ava, and Caleb. Edith spent her early years in southwestern Manitoba moving 14 times as her father, a CPR sectionman was relocated from town to town. She met Arthur as a teenager in Ninga, Manitoba and became a regular ice-skating companion. After completing her Grade 10, she started her work career at Scott Fruits in Brandon. Following her marriage to Arthur in December, 1945 in Douglas, Manitoba, they moved to Winnipeg and started their family in 1947. She later worked for North Star Oil and then in Group Special Accounts at the Great-West Life Assurance Company. Edith and Arthur enjoyed some 50 years in their St. Vital home on St. David Road. Following retirement, Edith enjoyed chartered bus trips with Arthur and friends, family vacations to Palm Springs, gardening, curling, lawn bowling, 5 pin bowling and walks with family and friends. She was a member of the Prendergast Seniors Club for several years. Only four pounds at birth, as a teenager trying to outposition Art's dog Toby in the front seat of his delivery truck, as an employee first cleaning jeep horns and later claiming to have trained the future president of GWL, Edith became a major influence on her family always offering big smiles and huge hugs. We will all miss her. A celebration of Edith's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Many thanks to the staff at Riverview Personal Care Home for their care of Edith since July 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edith's name to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • So sorry to hear of Edith's passing. My condolences to her family in this very sad time. I will never forget Edith as she and her husband were one of my most favorite customers until the closing of Southdale Zellers. I remember the time she nearly passed out in my line and I comforted her till the ambulance came. We kind of bonded at that time. I kissed her cheek and told her I would say a prayer for her. Everytime she entered the store with Arthur she would seek me out and welcome me with a giant smile and big hug. She was truly a wonderful woman. May she look down on us all from heaven and keep us warm with her loving smile. R.I.P. Edith, you will surely be missed. Your favorite cashier, Sandy. - Posted by: Sandy Ferens (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2014

  • A long time neighbour and family friend who welcomed the Rickey and Elrick kids into her home many times. Her kindness and warmth are reflected in the way she raised her kids and we are proud to say we remain lifetime friends of Don and Donna. To all of the Fischers, so sorry for the loss of your wife, mom, mother-in-law, and grandma. She will be missed. - Posted by: Don,Bev and the Rickey family (long time family friends) on: Feb 15, 2014
